I got a phone call this morning from a private number with a man claiming to be from FAS, who was, he said, updating their records in conjunction with the Dept. of social and family affairs.
He said he got my number fom my previous employer, who I worked for 7 years ago.

I asked him what information he wanted and why he wanted it. He said in case I wnated to do another FAS course, I have never done one.

I refused to give him any information, he seemed surprised.
I have contacted the FAS head ofice who are investigating.

Wondering if anyone else was contacted?

UPDATE
FAS have confirmed the call was bogus in case anyone else is contacted, don't give them any information.

Re: Has anyone else been contacted by FAS update

Strange. Wonder how he knew who you worked for 7 years ago.

I don't know anybody who has ever gotten a phone call from Fas, even if you wanted one!

I got as call from a non-national once, asking I could get her on a Fas course with the minimum of fuss , nudge nudge wink wink, trouble was , the mobile she was ringing from was a FAS project manager who had given me his number previously!.

Wasnt a PI course!

Is there a possibility that the Department of Social Welfare might have had your details on file? If so, there might be a connection to the results of the recent audit by the Data Protection Commissioner: [broken link removed]

How do you know that they were a "non-national" (I presume you actually mean "non Irish national")? Accent would not be authoritative on such matters.

Correct, but using the normal and reasonable assumption that a strong eastern European accent probably indicated that they weren’t born in Coolock.

That is very interesting, thanks for highlighting it for me.

I have been onto the Data Protection Comissioner, still trying to pursue this to make sure it is nothing sinister.

We moved home and I am wondering if post went to the old address and could have been used by the new owners.

Doesn't mean that they are not naturalised Irish citizens.
