Hello

Myself and OH are hoping to rent a car (pick up, Greenwich Village NYC, drop off Logan, Boston) from 2nd - 7th Oct.

Have been doing a few internet searches and best we can come up with (from Priceline) is £151GBP plus $US100 drop fee (roughly €253 altogether). This is for a ford focus or similar and includes up to 3 additional drivers and free tank of gas.

We have AA so have looked at Hertz and the best rate we are getting there is €221, but this doesn't include any additional driver or tank of gas.

I wonder if anyone has any good website recommendations that could possibly beat the above prices?

Thanks

Thanks for that recommendation brodiebabe. I've contacted them and they are providing a slightly better deal than priceline. Cheers.

Hi, I used Dollar when I rented in the States, as far as I can remember we didn't pay a one way fee, collected in San Fran and dropped off in Las Vegas.

I used http://www.holidayautos.co.uk/ to book a one way trip from LA to Orlando, did 4400 miles!! They booked through Alamo and I had to pay a one way fee locally of €330, mind you I think that would only cover the service and 4 new tyres after I was finished with the car!!

Off topic because OP is going in October, but there's a great deal called the "Florida Drive Out" whereby car companies lease cars to take from Florida to another point (there are options) for half-nuttin'. It's available for different periods, depending on the car rental company, but it's usually in the Feb-May timeframe. Also, different companies will put a time-limit on the time you can take to get from A to B - so e.g. the first 7 days will be for $80 for the entire time and the next 7 days (if you take longer to get to your point B) may be $150. But the deals really seem great.

There are actually a heap of them that do it so I didn't post particular links. If you do a google for "Florida Drive Out", you'll get details for Hertz, Budget and some related newspaper articles about the whole concept. Hope this helps

I have happily used http://www.carhire3000.ie (www.carhire3000.ie) in the past.

We also use the above site when we travel to the states, but we go through there English site which we have found to be cheaper again. They will try and foist you off to their irish agent who will be more than willing to take a few extra bob of you but insist on going thru them. After all you will be paying 14% less than you would be last year due to the exchange rate.
www.carhire.co.uk phone them for a better deal.

We had a bad experience while trying to book a one-way car hire in Canada. We booked and paid with http://www.carhire3000.ie (www.carhire3000.ie) We were awaiting confirmation by email. After many phone calls the departure date was approaching and we were finally told on the morning of our departure that the company they had booked for us couldn't do a one way rental after all. We had great difficulty and depended on the kindness of friends for most of the trip. USA might be better but for us ---
Never again!
