Help getting rid of polystyrene

Hi All,

Please feel free to move this post if not in appropriate forum. I had a massive clearout of my shed yesterday and came across several big pieces of polystyrene from when I bought stuff years ago which was packaged extremely well!

My problem is that I have no way of bringing these to the Recycling Centre myself as I've only a tiny car and wouldn't have the space needed. If anyone could point me in the right direction of getting hold of someone who could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

AnnieC

I break it up into smaller chunks, black bag it, and bring its down to center in the Micra. With the back seats folder down its bigger than our saloon.

You could do what I did!

Break it into small chunks and put it between the rafters in your attic, it will act as insulation.

only if you bought the item from them, recently, presumably?

I bring mine to PowerCity who are obliged to take it back!
Are you sure about that? If Power City are members of REPS (or whatever the retailer equivalent is?) then they are not obliged to take back packaging waste from consumers.

Hi AnnieC,

If you do any gardening using containers, you could re-use the polystyrene by breaking it up into small pieces and using a layer of them in the bottom of each pot to help drainage.

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the replies.
I should have said in my OP that I have a baby's car seat so it's not possible for me to put down the back seat.

It's from stuff I bought so long ago that I can't even remember what it's from never mind ask the shop to take it back!

Looks like I'll have to find a man with a van and see if I can borrow it for a day!!

Thanks again for all the replies.

Incidentally I saw a factory full this go on fire once. It melted the steel roof, and the girders etc. Got very hot.
