Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can help me.I am try to find out how much the tax would be on a vw passat 1.9tdi it was regisitered feb 08. I have looked it up on google and think it would be €290 per year. Can anyone confirm this for me? Or is this new tax system for new cars from july 1st onwards? Sorry if there is already a thread on this :)
 
Do you mean a car already registered here?
The new tax only applies to cars registered after July, so your VW Passat will have the regular tax which applies to 1.9 l cars.

There are lots of threads on the new car tax around here with lots more info.

As far as I know all new cars registered between 01/01/08 and 30/06/08 will have the new emissions based car tax applied when you renew your tax after 01/07/08 ie February for you if you taxed for 12 months when you bought.

Yeah it was bought here in irl and registered in feb 08. I will search around i was on a website and it make it look as if it was cars before july 08 aswell oops!!

Thanks, thats what i thought aswell from looking at another website. I'l go and ring someone to make sure!!

Thanks muckerman, I'd forgotten that bit about 08 cars - presumably the car tax will only change to the new rates if it's more advantageous to the car owner (and not to the government!)
 
There is info on [broken link removed] info on c02 and july prices includes tax rate and new price for all the vw range
