Foil Insulation

I am currently restoring an old house and did an extension. I made a dormer type house of it and need to insulate upstairs. I have only 4 and a half inch rafters in the old part and six inch rafters in the new. so i was wondering how to insulate the slopes. I mentioned to the engineer that i would use the foil insulation and 1 inch battens and he said this was fine if i used the foil that conforms to regulations (SUPER 10 ,I think he mentioned) . But from reading other threads i am under the impression that no foil insulation covers building regs. I would appreciate your replys.

You are correct. It does not comply with building regs.
When you say you are restoring the old house, what are you doing to the roof?
Taking off slates and felt (if it exists) etc. or trying to insulate from the inside?
Whether you can ventilate/need to ventilate will impact on the type of insulation you can use.

Thanks for your reply.Ya I completely gutted the place. Took off old tiles battens and felt. Put new breather membrane battens and slated on old and new section. The most thing i have the problem with, is how to insulate on the slopes of the 4 and a half inch rafters.

That was fast . I have breathable. But i believe i still need a 1 inch gap for ventilation, that leaves me with 3 and a half inches along rafter for insulation in the area between purlin and ridgeboard.
