Hi,
Carpenter just finished 2nd fix. Skirting is all fixed and looks good. It is deal and will be painted off-white. He has caulked the tops of the the skirting and this looks very nice - no spaces. He has also caulked a small stretch of skirting at the bottom apparently because of some not great tiling and spaces at bottom of skirting. Actually this looks really good but I was wondering if it would be a good or bad idea to do this for all the skirting ?
One thing which comes to mind might be difficulty getting a good line when painting.

I have done this on my skirting boards. If you intend to paint off white then there will be a slight colour difference at first, the caulk being brilliant white, but wash the floors a few times and the colour difference will not be noticeable. Even at first you'd have to look right at it to notice it in my opinion. Maybe just get an off white with not too much colour in it- there can be a big difference in the off whites.

Hi Vanilla,
How long ago did you do this ? Has there been any cracking or separation of board from caulk or caulk from floor ?
Thanks

I came across a stuff in a tube called Alex Plus got it in Woodies.
Its a sealer that can be painted over it's a little bit more expensive than caulk but looks the business for sealing windows and stuff I don't see any reason why it couldn't be used for the bottoms of your skirt boards.

Alex Plus is a caulk, all caulk should be overpaintable.

That's right but painters cault should be painted over but Alex Plus doesn't have to be painted over as it can be used as a sealer for around windows and other places.
It also comes in different colours.

I put on caulk AFTER painting the skirting boards and found it gave me a great line along the floor. It's on about a year now and no cracking. If I examined it closely I'd imagine it would be slightly discoloured from dust, floor washing etc but not to the extent that you would notice it. In fact I am very happy with it and think it looks much better than without.
