Hi,

Does anyone know what Croftwood Crescent in Ballyfermot is like to live in? Is it a safe area for a single woman to buy a house in that area?

Just curious as to why a single woman would choose this area.

Do you know the area at all?

I'm curious as to why she wouldn't ?[/QUOTE

Do you know the area? I do and thats why I am asking that question. If the OP is already from the area, then she will have a fair idea as to what to expect and will save other posters pointing out the obvious.

There are massive plans to regenerate the area which can only be good for the future, but the general area has a lot of severe social problems which is probably going to take a considerable time to iron out and that is why I am wondering why the OP decided to consider purchasing a property there.

Thanks for the replies. Dont know the area but was looking at what I could afford rather than where I would like to live. I was thinking along the lines of buying a house and then renting out one of the bedrooms to pay for it. Giving up on getting an offer from affordable housing. Been on the list for years now. Thanks again and I will keep looking.

croftwood, and the cherry orchard area is rough. wouldnt recommend buying a house there. sorry!

The croftwood and cherry orchard area in Ballyfermot are rough.I would not buy a house there. They are of course a huge amount of decent people living in these estates but they keep their heads down and are hard to find as a result.
There is a network of roads bordering Croftwood/Cherry orchard and it is a much more settled area. Most of the roads are named after areas in Connemara, e.g Spiddal, Carna etc. and I would sooner look there.
The estates on the south of Ballyfermot Road and on the city side of Kylemore Road are better again and are very settled. Don't buy a house beside a laneway, group of shops/pubs or a street corner or opposite a park in these areas because the local youths, winos/junkies tend to frequent these areas and can make your life hell.

Possibly the wort area you could possibly buy in.
I would be VERY surprised if you got a lodger who stayed more than a week there unless they are in a gang.

Honestly if i wanted someone hurt or killed, id send him for a walk in Croftwood crescent some night.

This is the biggest financial transaction of your life - if you get it wrong you will regret it for years. Don't take it lightly.

You admit you don't really like the area. Wait till you find something you like, and save and keep renting in the meantime.
You're single so you don't have family stability to worry about - what's the rush?

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like I dont have to worry anymore as I have just been offered a 2 bed apartment from the affordable housing. Have been on the list for years and had given up. So now happy days!

Thanks again for all your advise

I live in the houses backing onto the new AH Croftwood Crescent houses, the area is not Gallinstown style anymore, its quietened down. I think alot of people have a bad view of the place in general but its fine.

I wont lie, I have had my fair share of anti social behaviour to put up with, i.e. kids walking on walls, even jumping in and out of back gardens etc but I would never take back purchasing this house. Its the best thing ive ever done, thanks to AH I've got the house of my dreams,,,, well in 30 years of course, lol.
