House Swap: Car Swap vs Car Rental

Our family is planning a house swap this summer for 5 weeks with
a family from abroad.

Has anyone any experience with this and in particular pros & cons of
swapping vs renting cars ?

Obviously renting cars lowers risk but increases cost significantly
for both families. But at least there is peace of mind and less
complications in the event of an accident.

However, Irish car rental prices are ridiculous.

We have exchanged houses and cars for the last number of years and are doing so again this summer. We went to the south of France for four weeks last summer. If we were to rent a car for the four weeks it would have cost us over €1000. You could insure your no claims bonus against an accident or look into the possibility of both of ye driving on your own insurance.
