Free Withdrawals when Abroad

Is there any banks in Ireland which offer an account that there are no charges to withdraw when abroad other than the exchange rate buy/sell rate.

I think Nationwide in the UK have an account that allows this but not sure if there is anything similar in Ireland.

I opened a Halifax account to get their VISA Debit card which is very useful for using abroad & saves cash when booking flights as well but there is still a charge when withdrawing cash from ATM abroad.

Anyone any ideas?

An Irish ATM card used within the eurozone will be subject to the same trasaction charges at home. Where you are on free banking this means nothing. Outside the eurozone the normal Cirrus/Maestro etc. charges will apply.

If you put your VISA card in credit, you can withdraw for free. We go to France a lot and it's the best way. Just be sure that if you use it while on holidays in its normal way ie shopping, restaurant that it doesn't put you into debit and then when you withdraw you will be charged a withdrawal fee. In addition the exchange rate is very good if you're going to somewhere outside the eurozone. We've used this before the Euro and while in Mexico.
btw, ours is an AIB VISA - not a VISA debit card as you mention above, so you might want to confirm that this is the case for your own bank too.

Doesn't that depend on the specific card? And it won't be free if it's outside the eurozone as the normal CC foreign exchange margin will apply (usually 1.75% or more).
