Sicily in August

Thinking of going to Sicily in August for one week. Any thoughts on the best options - package or other? and where to stay etc.

I have been to Italy a lot and expect that August will be very hot but confined to that month unfortunately.

Sicily in August is very very hot, but with a dip in the pool or sea and a monster ice-cream,certainly cools the body temperature.

Today we booked our oun flights and accomadation to Sicily.
If we had have used a tour operator it would have cost 6400 euro for flights and hotel and car hire.
Booking everything ourselves, fights, accomadation and collection from airport to hotel ( taxi ) worked out at 2900 euro. We're over the moon and can't understand how tour operator's are allowed to charge these prices.

Simple - because they are providing an added value service, there are no price controls on such offerings and presumably the market will bear the prices asked.
