Hi,
Does anyone know of a good reliable and recommended driveway contractor in the Dublin 12 area (or surround) as we have got quotes from 6 'dodgy' outfits so far and are desperate to get the driveway done before our first born arrives late June?

Any pointers / advice / contacts would be great.

Many thanks
Ciaran

Hi Ciaran,

Have you had a read of the key post on paving contractors?

Not sure exactly what you mean when you say get the driveway done. Do you mean cobblelock, imprinted concrete or tarmacadam. There are many previous threads on all of these subjects so running the search function in this forum only, should help.

To familiarise yourself on what the best procedure is you should also have a read of www.pavingexpert.com

Best of luck with the job.

P.S. If I had my way over I wouldn't go for the cobblelock as its too high maintenance. I know someone who paid a lot for the imprinted concrete and there are two cracks in it, so there's no easy choice.

Yes there are several types or finishes and specifications available for driveways, cobblelock and imprinted just being two. There are for example natural stone paving (granite, limestone etc) as well for example the ubiquitous stone chippings and cross mixes of paving with chippings. Cost is not always the primary determinant of which finish, but as the saying goes "you get what one pays for". Cobblelock and paving if properly done should give years of statisfied service. Unfortunately most are unwilling to pay the relatively small additional cost for paving and frequently reap the consequences of rogue traders offering 'cheap' cobblelock etc.

Fortunately the market for superior and more expensive paved Driveways is buoyant and the OP might therfore find it difficult to identify an available contractor at this stage with any capacity to complete a project ahead of the looming June deadline.

Also in my experience it is disappointing and very frequent to see many front gardens visually destroyed in the rush with zealot efforts to create a 'car parking space'. It should be possible with a little imagination to retain a sense of a front garden that not only looks natural and interesting but also meet the important needs for car parking etc.

hey bizz1, I got my driveway done in cobblelock two weeks ago by a guy called dave ryan, done an excellent job and was far cheaper than two other quotes I got, his number is 086 8603946

Hi,

Welcome to AAM.

Can you confirm if you have any connection with Dave's business as advertising is not permitted under the . Recommendations from first time posters are inclined to look suspicious.
