sorting it!

Hi,
I have previously had finiacial problems which are now sorted.
However, now that im back on track my car needs to be replaced as there's a problem with the engine! It can be sorted but the cost of labour to me would cost more than the car's worth. Have had Second opinion too! This is just after ive finished paying it off!!
I applied to my bank for a small loan which was refused. I was going to trade it in with a relatives car and pay them back but they have since sold it privately (got a good price!!) So now im stuck! I dont know where to go to next. I only need a small loan to put towards a trade in but obviously my previous history is not looking good on ICB.
I used savings to clear my debt so only have few hundred saved again with CU. Reopened my a/c with them (after problems with clearing loan) and am now just saving with them. Not too sure id have much luck with them either.
Had car loan with GE Money and had difficulty paying half way through the term of the loan but have been up to date over a year and cleared it in jan.
I am on a good wage but pay rent and bills so would take me a bit of time to save. The car is still running but dont know for how long unless its repaired.
If you have gotten to the end of reading this and have any advice i would be very grateful!!

Could you get a reliable Mechanic to do the work for you as a nixer or shop around to some smaller garages who may do the work within budget then you may get it done for a price you can afford or can afford to pay from your savings. I know where you are coming from re the labour charges being more than the car's worth or re-sale value but to you its worth more than that as its your transport until you are in a position to but a newer or better model.

Just the obvious question... have you asked your Credit Union about a car loan? The worst thing they can do is say no but at least you will have tried.
