I want to set up new jewellery business online or otherwise - can someone advise how I register a new company. I need to obtain certain documents to give to wholesale companies (not sure what) so that I can purchase components wholesale instead of buying from retail shops. Where do I register and what documents do I need to prove that I'll be a valid business. Thanks.

Hi Scubee,

Just in relation to your new business. I know somebody who was in this business and is selling up. They have quite a lot of stock left so if you want to pm me for more details I can put you in touch with them.

Mods-hope it is okay to post the above.

Silver and mother of pearl jewellery. Earrings, Rings, Bracelets, Belly bars, Pendants etc. There is a good selection. They have been doing it on a part time basis for the last couple of years but cannot dedicate the time to it now so that is their reason for giving it up.

Its jewellery that was imported from Thailand. She went over and bought direct from the wholesalers. Don't know of a website offhand but will check with her. As far as I know most of them were small enterprises that only sold locally. I know one of them has a website but to be honest the images do not really do the pieces any justice.

Hi Debs, I don't think that this is what I'm after. Thanks anyway. The original questions stands if anyone has information for me.

Thanks Debs, don't think these products are what I'll be dealing with. Thanks a lot for your offer.

Anyway my original question stands if anyone has any advice.

consult either solicitor, accountant or a company registration agent for advice and assistance in setting up the company. You will need minimum 2 directors, registered office and company secretary, who can be one of the two direcors. however, company secretary has certain statutary duties, so you might want to avail of the company registration agents facilities in this regard.

Can you get correct documents to allow you to purchase wholesale without registering with the companies office

Very, very bad advice

DON'T just go off & set up a company. Its highly unlikely that you will need the expense and hassle. Sole Trader structure will almost always be much more appropriate for this sort of start-up - especially in the start-up.

DON'T under any circumstances rely on a company registration agent for advice on whether or not to form a company. They have a vested interest in selling you a company, regardless of whether you need one. You might as well ask an auctioneer whether you should offer €200K or €300k for a property.

DON'T rely on a solicitor for tax advice.

I guess what I really need to know is do I need to register a company, pay taxes, for a small home run buisness - I want to purchase wholesale and am not sure if I need to be registered as a company (paying taxes) before I can get the right documentation to present to a wholesaler to purchase cheaper products than going down the retail route. Thanks

UBIQUITUS:

I was giving my opinion. I never suggested seeking tax advice from a solicitor. One would expect LEGAL advice from a solicitor and TAX advice from accountant - would you not agree? Nor did I duggest getting advice from company registration agent - I said assistance, as they would be more familiar with the documentation.

I would also feel that as a sole trader one is exposed to full liability for anything that goes wrong - unpaid bills, claims against you for non payment, defective goods etc. The limited liability of the company protects the owner/proprietor against bankrupcy.

register your buisness with new buisness.ie have you got a name for your buisness ,yo can register it aslong has no one else has it,you need a vat number so you need to apply to the tax office,so when you are buying from wholesalers you will not pay the vat,you register has a sole trader,
have you looked up your local enterprise board there shoud be info on that or do a course on starting your own buisness the enterprise board runs them
