Doing books for a small company and want to get owner trained up in using a very simple user-frienly accounts package and wondered if this is suitable. Business handles approx 15 purchase invoices and 5 sales invoices per month.

Its not the best program to be honest, try Sage instant accounts its cheap and much easier to use. The majority of accountants use Sage so when it comes to doing your end of year return just bring them in a back-up files.

Sage Instant Accounts: €269 + VAT and for another €130+(Sage Cover) they'll even help you use it!
Quickbooks Simple Start: €72 + VAT (It does what it says on the box!)
No connection with either but I've used various Quickbooks versions for more years than I care to remember. AFAIK you can get a trial version... suck it and see...

Sage instant accounts costs £99 in PC world.
There is no need for Sage cover and it is optional. Sage is a simple program to use which is why it is the market leader.
The vast majority of accountants use Sage so when it comes to doing your year-end the transfer of data is simple.

I use both sets of accounting packages.i find quickbooks a much simpler package to use for small business and set all my clients up on it. mistakes are easily corrected on quickbooks which means a lot to peole who arent used to using accountign packages. Back up files can be used for QB too

Quickbooks seems to be available as a free download: [broken link removed]

I set up a company recently (a simple one-man consulting show for the moment) and have been looking into ways of recording my time, expenses and generating invoices. I signed up for the free offering at www.freshbooks.com. So far, it seems to meet my needs. Can anyone recommend other similar web-based solutions?

By the way, this is my first post in this great forum. Thanks for all the useful information I got the last few months!

Do people still buy software from bricks and mortar stores? - I thought that was gone the way of music shops. If they are the 'market leader' it is probably because they've spent €€€s on sponsorships and advertising, rather than the software being 'simple'.

You could also try www.sortmybooks.com (and buy from their website, if you like it) I have no affiliation.

Hi another vote here for Quickbooks. I've used it for MANY years for several small businesses in the USA, EUROPE and onward. GREAT package simple easy to use even for a numbers dummy like myself. I really struggle with doing my own books ANY tiny profit-pennies go immidiately to a bookeeper...but to begin with Quickbooks does the job. I personaly found SAGE cumbersome. No affiliation to either company.
