our tiler pulled from the job saying concrete fllors were too uneven.
He wants us to get 20 bags of levelling compound.
This comes to over €1K. I had asked builder to level these - he put some leveller down but tiler was not happy still. Builder said they are as even as he can do. Do I now have to foot this bill?

Ye do in your This post will be deleted if not edited to remove bad language get another tiler to have a look. Sounds like he doesn't want the job. Have you thrown a level on the floor to see what it looks like yourself? If your builder has used leveling compound what makes the tiler think his is better?

They are uneven in parts alright. The builders platerer was untidy & left a lot of marks. He cleared them up but still fairly uneven. In fairness to the tiler he started in the ensuite and his work is tasty so far. Maybe he just wants it spot on but the extr €1K for compond is saucy - has the builder any obligations here?

Don't know if he has any obligations...you could try him though if your not happy with his finish. Was this a new build or was it an extension? Are you holding any money for him you could maybe use this a barganing chip to get him to re do the floor?

New build - might have a word, don`t want to fall out at this stage as he`s done a good job (albeit uneven floor) so far.

Sounds like your a builders dream....too nice to get him to fix the floor and too nice to tell the tiler where to go with his €1k extra for leveling it. If you do pay for this whats to stop the builder taking the mick on other things? Compromise maybe?

Did you state the floor should be even enough for tiling pre job ??, If so, the builder is at fault. The least you could expect is a level floor

Pity they did,nt use screeding tool when floor was first laid.

Floor leveller can,t be 50 eur a bag (20 KG) ??

levelling compund quoted at €56 - or is there some other product that would do the job cheaper?

If the floor is a little uneven the tiler should be able to take this out using adhesive. If its very uneven the builder should see it clearly, and put it right, in any case the most cost you should have to incur would be for a few bags of adhesive.

If it's a new build it should be covered under homebond. A house up the road from me had to have his whole floor redone by the builder as the floors were not level.

hi, I levelled my sitting room prior to putting down wooden floors. I levelled with 5 bags of compound at approx e15 per bag. The only problem is you have to do it in 29 minutes and work fast, also work into a room where you will be sleeping or else you will have to cross over . MESSY.

Home bond do not cover the leveling of a floor, they only provide a structural warantee. It's more likely that this guy had his floor redone due to the pyrites that have been found in fill used as a floor subase.

what was the name of the material for €15 a bag - thanks

You could buy a own brand (like Homevalue Hardware) bag for €15 or less, the really expensive ones (latex) are up to €50 a bag. Who's covering the labour cost???

I`m employing the tiler, he hasn`t said it will cost anything extra. It turns out the stuff is €15 a bag he wants - so not as bad as first thought.

Hi, I am putting down semi-solid in my living room. When the guy came out to measure he said the floor was uneven and it would cost €200 for him to "shave" the concrete to make it even. He threw a leveller on it and it was like a sea saw. I am in a new build development. i told the foreman and he said that the guy was having me on trying to get more money out of me but i saw the leveller and it wasn't flat!!! Who is responsible now for making it level, now that i have signed etc?

And is it possible to "shave" concrete to make it level???
