Looking at an apartment in Park View in Finglas. Looks nice and all that but does anyone know the complex or area. Any words of caution or otherwise?????

A friend moved into an apartment there last week. I was really impressed with the size of the apartment, it even has seperate utility and storage rooms (I've never seent that in a 1 bed before).

His apartment looks out into a really nice communal garden but his front door opens right opposite the FAS - which is not as pretty!

The new Charlestown shopping centre is close-by and is really good and there are shops/chipper etc within walking distance at that other new estate down the road (not sure of the name, Cityside maybe?)

Pretty well served by buses as well I think.

As for the surrounding area, I'm not too sure what its like. There seems to be a lot of commercial property around it so it will be interesting to see how the residential element fits in.

Can you describe where it is in Finglas?

They're actually in Poppintree Park, at the corner of the Jamestown road. There was big debate about them when they were being advertised as they were being advertised as Glasnevin. I know the area very well and can say it's very very handy. Finglas village is a stroll away, the m50/m1 are seconds away. Oh and the nightlink goes right by the door as well as the new 140 route which I believe is an express bus to town.

Well if they are in Glasnevin, then surely Tesco Clearwater must be Drumcondra! lol..... property advertising is such fantasy eh?

To the original OP, would suggest you check out and see if the development (or other developments closeby) are listed there...Read some of the posts and you will get a realistic picture of what the development is like....in terms of quality of build, neighbours, anti social behaviour, security etc.
Theres not much to boast about in Finglas village at the moment...I would rarely go there...Its is due for huge redevelopment but there seems to be very little movement on it at the moment....Charlestown is grand for groceries and other handy bits and bobs but its not a shopping mecca...
Proximity to the city is pretty good though....as well as proximity to M50 and M1 as already described......

I disagree about Finglas village!!!! Okay you won't be setting the fashion world alight by shopping there or be getting frappachinos and paninis but for good value old fashioned style shops that have been there for donkeys years and where they know your name it's great! I do all my business there from banking/ beauticians/ dentist/ credit union/ tailors/ library/ greasy spoon breakfasts, most things that you need are in walking distance.

Hi Dee,
I live near by there and I must say it is a really nice area - very quiet - charlestown is near by as is lidl and aldi - yes there is not alot in Finglas village but Park View is in the nicer quieter end of the village.
The only thing about popintree park is you do have alot of guys riding little moterized bikes in the park. But the council are doing a huge job on it - apparently they will be building a wildlife park at the bottom of the park..

Dont mean to hijack the thread but does anyone have any views on this general area with Ikea opening nearby? Im thinking of buying round the corner at Creston and im unsure of parkview or creston? Also asking price is 410000 for 3 bed in parkview! very excessive I would imagine its worth 380 at most.

Any help/advice would be great!

That does seem excessive, that amount would get you a secondhand house further down in Glasnevin around the Willow park area.

I live across the road from creston, id like to echo the rest of the sentiment about the area, its good value relative to other areas in a similar price, due to the great shopping options and the public transport to town is excellent especially the express 140 route, my only concerns about creston is that even though the units are quite big the development suffers alot from noise from the m50 which is adjacent.Hope that helps.

one other thought, the thing that puts me off both parkview and creston is the management charges (even for houses if im not mistaken) personally id avoid, I wouldent fork out that for a 3 bed, theres a 5 bed semi d going (with no mgt charges)in the area for the same money, and even thats overpriced IMHO. but thats to do with the Market as a whole and I wont go there..

you would then have to facto in stamp duty which could push it above the new property price and also then if the 2nd hand house needs some work. tough choice to make all the same.
