Minister for the Environment has just been on the radio talking about World Water Day March 22, and the best he can come up with is ' do not leave the tap running while brushing your teeth'! will this really help?

I generally try to be environmentally conscious on weekends by not washing if I can avoid it - I'm happy to sacrifice for the planet.

Do the people around you agree with your view ;)

Are you sure your name is rMELLY? Doing what you do is very noble. We've got a chap down the road here who goes far further. People avoid him in the nicest possible way. For him it's all about 'saving the lonely planet'.;)

Of course it will. 4.3 million people in the country, brushing their teeth twice daily, will consume a lot of water if they leave the tap running for the duration of the brushing...

May help, but not as much as taking a shower instead of a bath!

No 8 on the list here says a 5 minute shower uses more than 50% again water than a bath !!! I wouldn't have thought this.

It specifically mentions power shower for this comparison though -
standard shower uses a lot less.

My shower used loads of water and I spend 5-10 minutes under it every morning. There is no way I will change this practice.
I have low-usage toilets, a low usage washing machine, a low usage dishwasher, I don't use the hose when I wash the car etc... brushing your teeth with the tap on is a non-event.

Are you serious? The thought of not washing makes my skin crawl! In fact it reminds me of a former housemate....His nickname was whiff :D
