Tunnel dweller at Rath Lugh

Its so sad that there is criticism for someone standing up for their values whether you share them or not. So few young people care about anything these days.
So you'd be cool with extremist Muslims protesting against the repeal of a death sentence imposed on a homosexual in Iran, as long as they were strongly held beliefs?

Oh for God's sake! Is this the kind of nonsense you throw at anyone who disagrees with you?

You really need to try a little harder to accept that some people, like Sylvester3, have views that don't tally with your own - and they're just as sincerely and passionately felt.

Grow up.

Relax!
Who said I disagree with the girl in the tunnel?

I have no idea, not me - I don't know what your precise views are on the tunnel girl, only that the tone of your reply to the poster above, who strikes me as sincere (whether I agree with him/her or not) was one for which this smiley was probably designed: .

Heard Squeak's friend on the radio. like a caricature straight out of a Ross O'Carroll Kelly book.

Squeak's friend's dad was on at the same time and he didn't seem too bothered at the prospect of his inarticulate son joining Squeak.

She's out of the tunnel now though so we can continue ploughing through the country's heritage.

Strawman.

As an aside why don't the rules of the discussion board stipulate that the use of a strawmen, red herrings and ad hominem arguments be disallowed? I guess it would kill half the posters around here.

Can there be a rule banning meaningless generalisations as well?

Hi Purple,

I don't particularly mind new roads as such, although I am personally waiting for my own flying car (a la back to the future II & III) so we can get rid of the need for them ;). Its just nice to see someone standing up for their beliefs in a fairly dignified (albeit irritating to the developers) way. I wouldn't be quite so supportive if it was a religious belief that meant imposing her views and the death penalty on another person, but in my defence I had no idea I was actually arguing in favour for that (a quick look at the subject heading suggests we were talking about environmental activism, but hey lets not let facts get in the way of a good discussion, eh?)

By the way, has anyone mentioned Hitler yet and nazi extremism yet? Thats were these debates usually seem to end up! Maybe I was arguing in favour for that as well?
