Thinking of getting boat to france , driving 5 or 6 hours south and staying in one of the Keycamp (or similar) sites. There seems to be so many to choose from. Can anyone recommend any. I would like the following ;

1. Around half way down France to get some chance of good weather.
2. Good on site facilities - pools,slides,etc
3. Indoor pool in case weather is bad
4. Good day trips in the area - zoo's, etc
5. A couple of nice restaurants on site or within walking distance of restaurants (don't want to cook ourselves every night)

Thanks.

You should also consider doing it yourself as opposed to going through a 'third party'. There are big savings to be made for a little time spend online...

http://www.la-croix-du-vieux-pont.com/ is the place to go and like Crugers suggested you should book yourself with the owners.
We went there 3 years ago and the kids and ourselves had a ball.
Its about 2 and half hours drive from Calais and another hour drive to Disney Paris.
We travell via holyhead and down tof olkestone and used the tunnel to calais.

Contact the owners about renting their spotlessly clean and well equiped apartments that they have available.

hoopman,
that looks great too, but it looks a bit too far north to have a chance of good weather. how was the weather when you were there ?

I've a small place in La Palmyre - great Atlantic beaches, family friendly restaurants and 2nd sunniest part of France reputedly. I can highly recommend the area - except for busiest times in August.

Last two weeks in August are ok - busy but not overcrowded. The busiest is first two weeks of August.

We went last week in June and first in July. The first week was an absolute scorcher average 35 degrees. Definitely needed air condioning in car although there was none in the apartments, but we coped.
Second week there were a few days of scattered showers which passed quickly and great sunshine after the showers.
there was plenty to do and the nearest major town of Soissons was only 30 minutes drive away which had a great market twice a week. There were also a number of other great places for day trips if you felt the need.

That place looks very good. were there any restaurants in walking distance ?

Some basic fast food etc on site but car needed to get to nearest town/villages. Ideal place for those who want to hone up on their BBQ skills tho' !

I did a similar trip 3 years ago in July, for 10 days, myself, the wife and 4 kids. Booked via "Haven" in UK, was a lot cheaper than any agent in ROI.

I remember being absolutly horrified at the cost of the ferry, some thing like 2K with only seats being reserved, God knows how much a cabin would have been??
So what I did was, flew Ryanair to Beauvais, rented a Citroen C8 (with sat.nav.,brilliant) and saved approx. 1K., with all the advantages of driving a LHD rental car with automatic breakdown coverage and no wear & tear on my own car. Plus no 16 hour sailing and no wear & tear on my nerves.

Something to think about......would you not agree?

Hi,

If you do decide to use Keycamp, compare prices on their .CO.UK website as they are generally much cheaper.

Can second this recommendation - fantastic zoo locally, Cognac close by - not sure if you have kids - just one thing to be careful of is the strong waves on the west coast of France - wouldn't stop you going, but just keep a close eye on them at the beach....

we wnt to Les Charmettes (Siblu) and going by your preferences it fits the bill. Indoor pool is heated and mobile homes have air-con.
It's just around the corner from La Palmyre.

What I would say is book direct with the campsite rather than going through the likes of keycamp. It will work out cheaper. Stayed in La Palmyre in 2005 in Bonne Anse Plage site.

You've left it a bit late to get somewhere now but maybe you'll get lucky as its last 2 weeks in Aug
