Kitchens at cost

We have picked out our kitchen & designed it ourselves.
A friend of hubbies has said he will get it at trade prices (almost half pricec apparently) from the company - anyone know if this is accurate or anything to be wary about??
Thanks!

I find that hard to believe but it does depend on the company. Places like Noyeks may offer 20% to 30% trade discount but I know they wouldn't give 50%, the prices are cheap enough to start with. If you walk in off the street to Noyeks with a large order and ask for a discount on the list price I'd say they'd give it handily enough but if they know you're a kitchen fitter they will be more likely to give an even better discount (obviously).

Companies with a different buisness model may be able to give 50% but it's hard to describe the difference between the types of companies.

Obviously you want to be in a position to deal with the company if things aren't right, this is essential and it may prove to be false economy if this wouldn't be possible with the 'cheaper' arrangment.

Hi,

Not sure what company you or your friend is referring to but the guy that did my kitchen has a trading account with one of the bigger suppliers and he can buy it cheaper than what the normal public can for so I would not worry too much about it, but don't take my word for it.

I remember my manager was getting built in wardrobes. He priced the materials in the panelling centre and then his friend, the carpenter fitting it, bought the stuff at trade prices. There was a huge difference in the price. He told me his friends fee and the materials came in less than the original quote. I'd say it is quite possible you could get your kitchen units nearly half price.

Average door say the 715 x 595 cost from supplier about 40 euro to trade this is passed to customer for at least 80 euro, fact if you know a trade man with a trade card he should go to a place like Colliers of airways ind est near the airport, because these are the guys that supply noyeks and the like, I got my kitchen of them all in 1500 euro, and a guy to fit 500 euro, it would have cost me 7K if I got a company to do it, tell your friend to go with cash to colliers

Hi Dodo,

I would be interested in going the colliers route and may know someone with a trade card. How to I ensure that the units will fit in my kitchen?. Do I design it myself and get the list of measurements of standard units from Colliers to ensure they will fit?
Will the design I got from inhouse/noyeks etc be the same units as I'd get from colliers?

Any advice would be great...:)

Get some kitchen [lace to do all the work for you, pretend you are interested in getting your kitchen of them, they should should do up a plan and ask them for a breakdown of how many doors sizes etc, You should also get the carcus's yourself p/n 4572502, it is in cloandalkin in an ind est

If the company have a landform that extends above the surrounding terrain in the name then if you know the right people it would be no problem to order direct from the wholesalers, and 50% less than a quote given from a reseller would be easily obtained.

Many thanks for the advice.

I know a few people who are tradespeople but I don't think they are specifically kitchen fitters....
Is there just one trade card or does each trade have its own ?

Thanks

No.. there may not be physical 'trade cards' at all. Although I have an account with Noyeks where there was a card given that is the only example, I also get trade prices off other places with no card.

The point really is that if the same place sees you time and time again and you have spent tens of thousands (as I have) then they know you and offer good prices. If you turn up asking relatively silly questions in a suit then they know you are most likely a once off customer and will offer a smaller discount.

Even if you dress down, wreck your clothes and know everything they still may not offer the best prices as you don't have a history.

On the other hand I reckon it's false to believe there are places offering half price kitchens but you have to be in a club to get them... just go to Noyeks and they'll look after you... a tradesman may get 20% to 30% off but the idea you'll get 50% off is pretty false in my opinion. The difference between the best price to a tradesman and the worst retail price may be 50%.

Cheers
Joe

In my limited experience with Noyeks, I sent my wife up to get about €3,500 worth of kitchen units/doors and she got about 20% off the list price without even asking or knowing it was available.

Off course she stopped off in Liffey Valley on the way home and spent the 20%. :(
