RTE - Repeats

Can someone tell me why RTE constantly repeat the programs they show at prime time television viewing?

For example last night on RTE they showed Room to Improve at 830 - This series has already been aired some time ago. They did the same thing with Eddie Hobbs show, I'm an adult ... and also Househunters.

I find it extremely frustrating that our national station feels the need to repeat programs at the peak viewing times.

My blood raged last night and I nearly ripped my TV license reminder notice which was in my hand at the time when I turned on RTE expecting a new series to see this old series repeated. Why do we have to pay 160 a year to see the same things over and over again?

I think all stations are guilty of this but what makes it more annoying for me is the fact that I have to pay €160 for the privilage.
However, the licence debate has been covered here on numerous threads.

All station show repeats as far as I know but as RTE has such a limited amount of "home grown" programming I think it stands out more when they repeat them.

What do you expect when wages, perks, pensions and salaries are so grossly over the top at RTE ? They have no money left to buy or produce any decent programmes.

do they always show on the listing it is a repeat. nothing worse than to start watching and then realise you had seen it before

That annoyed me even more. I checked the info on sky and it did not say repeat. Although I don't know if this info is provided to the sky box from RTE or not.

no problem with repeats - but would agree with OP that these should not be screened at peak viewing times.

Repeats are the norm now I'm afraid, in this new 24hr TV world.

I too do not mind them too much, as long as they aren't shown at prime times.

I have often caught a programme on repeat that I missed initially, so they can be handy enough.

Not at peak viewing times. Bad and bloated as BBC or ITV is, at least they do not show repeats at peak times.

Repeats are a necessary evil, sometimes because of production delays on new series.

It galls me to hear people moan about the licence fee!! The fee pays for RTE to be able to buy the top imports such as ER, Lost, Prison Break, Desperate Housewives as well as Eastenders and Neighbours. Then there are films, documentaries, news and current affairs. A pile of radio stations, 2 orchestras, a couple of choirs oh and don't forget the percentage that goes to TV3 and independent production companies!

Not bad value for 160 euro IMO.

Top Imports: Desperate Housewives, Eastenders, Neighbours???? I don't think so.

I was going to lose the rag and tear into your post but I think I will leave it up to more eloquent posters than me.

Great thing about getting older is you don't always remember the original!!!....Has anyone seen Cartai Poist on TG4. Very enjoyable.
