Hi all,

I am thinking of changing my car at the minute, I currently have an Audi TT which I have nearly had for 1 year, I do a lot of mileage over a year so I normally change cars every year.
The car I am currently looking at is a 07 Ford Focus 1.6 3dr around 22k, 15k miles. Can anyone give me any feedback on this car, pros, cons etc etc.

I know the new shaped Focus is just released but not really interested in buying a new car at the moment. If anyone could give me feedback that would be great, the main reason for buying a ford is that they are fairly reliable and look very nice and as I am only 24 looks a bit sporty also.
If anyone can give me any comments on the Focus or recommend anything else that would be great, I am gettting killed with insurance at the moment so that is a big factor also in the choice of car.
Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
AM

An odd coincidence but I own exactly the car you describe. I've had no issues with it at all, and it's good fun to drive.

I assume it's a Zetec Connection model you are looking at for that money? The connection pack is great - bluetooth, keyless, enhanced alloys, auto lights and wipers, climate instead of a/c etc. It also has better seats and uprated suspension.

Running costs are low. 40mpg is achievable on long runs.

It will be a good bit more sedate and less dramatic than your TT however.

Thanks for that RS2k. I'm not too sure if it the Connection version the one I am looking at is [broken link removed].

Is there anthing else I should look out for when taking the car for a test drive?

BIG drop in power from the TT. Still a very good car, best in it's class, and nice to drive. More reliable than an Opel and more fun to drive than a Golf.

2 cars shown in that ad. The other is an 04 saloon!

Yep it's a Zetec Connection ok. I think €22k is a bit pricy however, although it does have a bodykit, which I don't value at all.

I recently visited that dealership looking for a TDCi focus. Found them quite pricey!

Eventaullly got a better spec focus with 20k lower miles for 1,500 less than they were looking for!

Shop around. There are plenty of focus's out there!!

It's a good solid car with some good features. It won't get you excited and, as regards performance, will leave you seriously underwhelmed compared to a TT.

Is there anything in-between that might soften the blow?

The power issue really isn't a concern for me, I stick to the speed limit mainly what I am looking for is reliability and comfort on long drives as with work I could drive up and down from Cork to Dublin on the one day.
The TT was just a good opportunity, a mate of mine was put off the road for (you guessed it) speeding and needed to seal the TT cheap so that's why I bought it to be honest.
I am only 24 so anything with a big engine is going to cost me a fortune so that why I am looking at a 1.6 Focus at the minute.

Thanks for you help keep it coming.

A focus will certainly be reliable but I've found that for a long journey, it's not as comfortable on a long journey as a higher powered car.

A bigger engine doesn't just provide speed. It provides a smoother drive which needn't involve breaking speed limits. For example, a 1.8 litre Mondeo might offer greater comfort whilst still saving you money on insurance, petrol , etc.

I suspect the TT is built for performance first, comfort second so a more sedate 1.8 engineed car might fit the bill.
