Commuting from Lucan area to city

Hi,

I normally cycle most days to work, although, when there is something social in town etc, I'll use the mortons coach.

My only concern now (apart from the risk of being hit by a truck / bus / car) is the air quality.

I am seriously considering buying a mask to filter the air. Does anyone use this and have any recommendations?

Maybe I should start a new post on this topic!

Cheers,

Fresco

i think a mask is necessarily when u cycling on the road, the fact that cycling ur body will need to breathe in more oxygen, and theres more fume on the road from cars on side of the road

Chippengael, maybe not back in the car, but back on the bus.

With a "hit rate" of at least one accident a year in city centre on bike, I would not do it anymore. B4 anyone jumps in with cyclists and safety, I wore reflective gear, lights day and night, never broke red lights unlike most drivers getting to an amber, and always used hand signals (rude ones included:p). Just breaking off my typing to shine my halo here..............

It took me 35 mins to get from Lucan to City Centre this morning leaving at 7.35, it took my boss 1 hour and 20 mins from Blackrock to City Centre leaving 7.50 - I didn't use the bus lanes, go like the clappers or break every red light.

Is this an all time record?

Now lets see what this evening brings......

Lucan (Bewley) to IFSC average 30mins on bike with quickest time of 27mins getting all the lights. Shower in Gym then into work. :)

Wasn't there an article recently that cycling (city) to work is doing more harm to you (fumes etc) than the exercised gotten from it. When you get a mouthful of fumes from a bus eireann bus (used to cycle) i tend to agree.

Silly question maybe, but is it feasible to cycle along the canal from Adamstown to the city i.e. is there a path? Moving to Adamstown soon.

Shouldn't be a silly question but I know what you mean.
This might help:

I do the cycle in the opposite direction a fair bit of a Summers evening. Newcastle road to Sallins with a stop of in Hazelhatch for a brace of scoops.
I did try to cycle into town once a few years back. Didn't get very far.The tow-path turns into a mud-path just before Kilmahuddrick. Might have changed since then but I doubt it.
