How to fix scratched(small parallel gouges) in bath

Hi
Does any-one know a (D.I.Y.) way to repair shallow-ish gouges in a bath?
I have 2 parallel gouges in the side of my bath, where the shower screen screen comes across the edge of the bath (which is not contributing to the problem, because the bottom of the screen is pliable rubber type material). I reckon they happened when the bathroom was being installed. I've ignored them so far, but I'm doing some up-dating of my place, and it's be nice to try and fix them. I think the bath is enameled, over metal (sounds like metal, when it's tapped), but there is no sign of rust because the scratches aren't deep enough. I've seen some things that can be used, when googling the problem, but does anyone have some personal experience of what could help? I'd be worried about using anything which involves sanding/could possibly cause further damage..
Thanks in advance :)

Thanks for that suellen.
I think they only deliver to UK, but looks like I should be able to pick up something in a hardware store here. Has anyone used any of these repair things, and what sort of result did they get? ie could you see the scratches afterwards?

Mr Wishbone dropped a hammer on the corner of the bath and chipped off a nice chunk of enamel exposing as you say what looks like grey metal. We bought one of those enamel sprays (paints)and glues and stuck on the bits as well as we could and then sprayed and polished. It actually isn't too bad. I'm afraid this was 10 years ago now so I don't know which brand it was. The products available might even be better now. I think the most difficult is getting a colour match. It's worth a go anyway.

Thanks Wishbone: I'm assuming my one actually is an enamel over metal bath, purely because it feels cold to touch, and sounds metalic when tapped! Anyone know if an acrylic bath would also feel cold/sound metallic-ish? The advise for the way to treat the baths depends on what they are made of (ie sanding for one type, other treatment for other types...). Would hate to do the wrong one..!

My bath is not enamel over metal and I can confirm it does not sound metallic when tapped nor does it feel cold to touch.

Hi
Quick follow up as to results of using one of those enamel bath repair kits yesterday: result looks like I tippex-ed the bath! (despite being v careful, and following instructions to the letter) And scratches still visible..
Also now has peeled off after having a shower! (was given enough time to dry etc)
Aaw well
Nicola
