hi, i myself have an overbite, and have been seeing a dentist since i was 7 about it, im now 24 !!! i havent got it corrected as of yet as i was told the dentist wants to crack my jaw (painful) then id have to eat liquidised food for 6 weeks and stay in bed, with two small children, one disabled this isnt an option, and then wear train tracks for 18 months . not sure wat to do

I'm in my 30's and I've had braces for the past 6 months and am due to see a surgen soon to discuss what to do with my overbite. Need to take out wisdom teeth to make room and break lower jaw to move it forward. I'm not too keen on the latter.... Just wanted to know if anyone has had this operation? There are lots of blogs on the subject but all the people are in the US. Thanks.

I am 30, currently two years into ortho to correct an overbite. At the current phase in my treatment plan, we are using elastics to retrain the TMJ muscles and encourage my lower jaw to come forward to meet my upper (upper has been widened and corrected). The elastics are fine, if a little fiddly! Depending on how this goes, I may be a candidate for Orthgnatic surgery (jaw realignment). I have seen several patients undergo this procedure and the results have been quite remarkable (depending of course on how severe the profile was to begin with).

It is major surgery and the recovery period can be hard work, but the results are well worth it.
