Travel agent won't give discount for providing own travel insurance

I'm organising a trip for a group to go away together. The cost is approx. €500 per head.

The Travel Agent says that travel insurance is included in the price. People can take out their own travel insurance, but they won't receive a discount if they do so. It seems the agent is saying they are providing Travel Insurance free of charge.

Is there anything illegal in their position? Are they required to offer a discount if people opt to use their own travel insurance.

That's odd. Normally the insurance is not included in the price but is an optional add-on. Maybe the NCA can comment on your statutory rights in a case like this?

I booked a holiday to-day and was told free travel insurance was included for all five of us. Quite a few travel agencies had special offers for free child places etc expiring to-day. These special offers available to anyone who booked up to to-day 28th February.

would agree with ya there...doubt they would offer free insurance, hidden in the cost somewhere surely !

i agree with oldtimer. Some companies have special deals from time to time and provide perks, such as free child places/free insurance amongst others if booking at certain slack periods.

If it is 'free' then you cannot have a discount if you provide your own.
