Hi guys

I was wondering if anybody might be able to help me. I am looking for the easiest and cheapest way to get from the aiport in Prague to the city centre. I have emailed the Prague tourism website but their only suggestion was to offer to arrange taxi transfers!!!

Thanks

Prague, while being a lovely place to go, has a bit of a reputation for overcharging in some areas - particularly taxis. This news story will give you the idea: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/e...r-to-expose-the-great-taxi-ripoff-486682.html

Personally I have never had a problem, but I never flagged down a taxi anywhere. When going, I booked a pick up with http://www.prague-airport-shuttle.com/ who cost €24 to greet you at the airport and deliver you to whever, and they will give you a map of the city. The driver will speak English and tell you a bit about Prague.

For returning, I booked with AAA taxis who always picked me up about 10 minutes later. They were a bit cheaper than Prague Airport Shuttle, but I didn't know how to book them from the airport! By the way, I've no connection with either company, just found them very professional.

I have some land over there and hence visit a lot so heres what i do:

First of all, when you arrive, go to the customer information desks and ask to buy a bus and metro ticket. It should be 26 Czech Crowns (about a euro). Be careful and count your change as a lot of tourists are unfamiliar with the money and dont get the proper change. This ticket will be good for use on both bus and metro. It's an integrated system.

When you leave the airport, look around you should see a bus stop in front of you. There are several lines running so make sure you take the bus nr.119 that goes to DEJVICKA - its the last stop. It goes every 8 minutes so you won't have to wait long. Its roughly across the road and to the right as you exit the airport. There are airport officials who can advise you where it is if you get lost.

After getting off the bus you will see an entrance to the metro in front of you - station DEJVICKA, line A (green).

Take the train in the only possible direction (Depo Hostivar) as Dejvicka is the last station. If you get off at MUZEUM (the 5th stop) you will be fairly central and also able to transfer to the Red line if you follow the crowds. I think MUZEUM is really close to Wenceslas Square. Just find out which Metro stop is closest to where you want to be and then get off there.

This is exactly what I did in January so everything should be exactly the same and you should do fine if you follow these instructions exactly. This is the easiest way to do it. You cant miss the last stop for the bus and then you certainly cant miss the metro when you get off.

Ignore any taxi drivers who approach you at the bus stop. You have your 1 euro ticket and should be fine ;-)

thanks for the replies - I will probably look into the last option due to the fact we arrive early Sunday morning. If it had been at night I probably would have gone for the airport shuttle transfer.

One last suggestion, the cedaz bus service do a mini bus service from airport to Republiky station in the city centre that costs less than 4 euro per person and goes every half hour. (this is different to their more expensive service that drops you to your hotel) You can buy tickets at the cedaz desk which faces you as you come through arrivals and the white minibuses are just outside the door. I found this great with luggage! The bus stop in the city centre is very convenient, they are very punctual and drop you back to your correct terminal, though obviously a bit more expensive than the metro and bus option

Thanks for your suggestion! OK so I just found out we are not staying in the city centre!!! Thank god for the girlfriend or I'd be totally lost!!! We are staying in the Ariston Hotel in Praha 3. Would I be better off just grabbing the airport shuttle taxi direct to the hotel?

You need to book the shuttle in advance (assuming you're talking about the place I mentioned in my earlier post) giving your flight details and they will meet you even if your flight is delayed. It's not a service you can "grab"! ;)

highly recommend the prague airport shuttle. Booked it for two seperate friends of mine when they were heading to Prague (at different times of yr) and they both found it an excellent service espec when flight was delayed. Pick-up for return transfer arrived earlier than planned time and waited until they were ready to leave.
