am at the end of a long restoration project on an Opel GT and am wondering are there any clubs out there. I know there is one in the UK but can't seem to find one here. Are there any GT owners out there?

Saw one in London years ago and fell in love with it, Not really a big car man but have unusual taste in motors, also have a 1991 black cab, love it. what do you think of the GT?

Not really that interested in classic cars but an interested in why people have a preferance! They do look fairly funky all the same.

hey Stephen, you say that now you just haven't seen the right classic for you yet! the thing that sold it to me are the curves and the pop up lights, lights being mechanical you need to be pretty strong to pull to lever and steer of course (no power steering in the 60's!)

Saw a beutifull "metallic green" one in a filling station in Kilkenny recently, was it yours?

BTW, if you are looking for clubs in the UK, Opels were badged as Vauxhalls for that market.

mine is a beautifull red and She's never been to kilkenny. This car was never know as a Vauxhall, made in France and 90% of them shipped to States, only made as a left hand drive. Any idea why they call them Vauxhall in UK?

General Motors took over the businesses of both Opel and Vauxhall in the late 60's or early 70's and despite sharing all components, apart from badges, for marketing purposes they stuck with the Vauxhall brand for the UK, Holden in Australia and New Zealand and I think Opel everywhere else.

I was in Oz for a while and saw plenty of Holden's, never made the connection. you learn something new every day!

Hence the ready availability of GM's V8 "hemis" and I think straight 6 engines for the Aussies and Kiwis - the lucky divils!

yeah, i always wondered why they laughed at me when I told them my first car was a 1.0L Micra!!

What engine does yours have? I do love the original SL DavyJones! Why was the namw opel pulled from the US?

She's a 1.9L, they also made them 1.1, apparently the same guys that designed the corvette (hence the look and the nick-name, mini corvette) designed the GT under the condition that they wouldn't be in direct competition. many people upgarde the engines, redtop etc, but I want to keep her original.
