cost of paving and can you ask builder to do this?

Just bought a new house and as we have dogs we need to pave the back its a huge garden with just earth at the moment, anyone know the average cost per sq metre using basic enoght paving slabs? Also could we ask the builder to do this? I know they wouldn't do it for free , but do builders usually do these extras at a cost or just tell you to sort it yer self?

You've nothing to lose by asking but I would also get other quotes.

I asked my builder if he would pave over two small areas of grass at the front of the house and he wanted a grand to do this. Its a very small area but it would mean being able to get two cars in the driveway rather than one. I thought for the size involved it was too expensive so am looking to get other quotes.

Seeing as you have dogs (I have one myself) I would not get the back garden completely paved over. Its nice for the dogs to have a bit of grass rather than all paving.
