Anyone else watch this? How utterly deppressing... I thought neither the family left behind of the VdP proved themselves "deserving" of the legacy.

My sympathy had been with her family until they talked about cutting off Paddy's TV and electric. She may have known her SIL had not a charitable bone in her body, but perhaps trusted the VdP to do the decent thing for what was obviously a well known but vulnerable character in Galway.

If ever there was a lesson for spend it whilst you have it...

I watched a bit of it. I got bored and put on some Rumpole of the Bailey DVDs instead. Much more entertaining old dear.

Hmmm...and what did "she who must be obeyed" have to say about that?

Interesting story alright but sad at the end with Paddy dying alone of hypothermia. The 'Yanks' dont come across too well overall. I never knew McDowell had gotten involved.

Re: RTE The Family Silver

Again, I had sympathy with the family until the sister in law cut Paddy off - but on a whole I think the whole community in and around Eyre Square let that man down, including the VdeP. People knew that he was living alone in that pub, they knew that Mrs Connell had looked after him - they just didn't bother chasing the situation up to see if he was being fed and looked after. It says a lot about the community and the family that not one person could step up and grant her last wish - i.e that Paddy be looked after

Her joy is like an instinct, joy
Of kitten, bird, or summer fly;
She dances, runs without an aim,
She chatters in her ecstasy.

That's very cultural for this early in the day!
Very sweet, too. :)

You are obviously in a mutually respectful and loving relationship :D

I on the other hand prefer the Tantric Trubador himself, for his description of my significant other:

How will I know?
How can I tell?
Which side of the bed she takes when the day begins
She can be kind
She can be cruel
Shes got me guessing like a game show fool

Watching the weathermans been no good at all
Winter, spring, summer, I'm bound for a fall
There are no long term predictions for my baby
She can be all four seasons in one day

And..apologies to the OP for taking this thread way off topic - Clubman feel free to snip!

Going back to the original issue here I think nobody came out of the programme looking particularly well - maybe other than the deceased.

Like most posters I was on the side of the family until that heartless woman spoke of taking the tv off the old man and cutting the heat. She may have been annoyed over the will but personally I would have like to have seen her charged with abuse or something! She's the only one with blood on her hands.
