Would anyone be able to recommend a Quantity Surveyor in the South Kerry region? I'm about to start a self build and I need a Bill of Quantities prepared.

What sort of Size house Spec is it? There are only a handful of quantity surveying offices in Kerry and i reckon you would be well charged for a BOQ. Is it self build or appointing a contractor, what do you want the bill for is it to get a builder to price the entire build?

I used a quantity surveyor from Kerry to do up an estimate of costs for the mortgage for my self build.

I've no connection except that I'm a happy client

Thanks for the replies guys.

Jolly Man - it will be a 2,500 sq. ft bungalow. I want to approach a number of builders for a quote. I've been doing a little research and the advice I have been receiving is to draw up a BOQ in advance, otherwise it will be very difficult to compare quotes.

Shiram,

Sorry about the late reply, i guess if you are going for a builders finish and one contract to complete the works you would be as well off to get the BOQ drawn up. It will allow you track accurately what is and what is not included in the builders price and any variations that may occur can be clearly defined.

It may cost you in the region of €800 to get it done or more if you go to an office.

It will also assist you when paying the builder on stage or monthly payments.

This ensures that you are not overpaying a builder.

Is that including VAT at 21%?

Depends who you have doing it i guess! I rarely do them on the side and charge €400 cash!

I reckon if you went to an office you could be charged up to €1500 excl vat!

As alser said for a one off self build a clear and defined written scope can be just as good as any.
