Any views on which is the better town to live in? What is the property market like in the two towns? What are the amenities like e.g. Shops, Transport, Schools, Social Scene etc.

We are urbanites and have not interest in living "out the country"! (So Farranfore or Fieries are not options)

All comments and views would be more than welcome.

Resided in Killarney for three years up to last year.

In my opinion Killarney is a great place to live -

Great social scene.(too good at times!!!)
Good local restaurants
Excellent gyms
Good schools

Houses can be overpriced depending on location

Best of luck!

killarney much better than tralee but a bit more pricey but worth it tralee has lots of property to let due to section 23 etc and it is hard to let or sell in tralee also killarney much nice town all round

Buyers coming from the East Coast continue to push up prices in Killarney and Dingle. Indeed, prices here are well above the national average, ranging from between €300,000 and €330,000. Sites are also very much sought after, with a lack of supply leading to high prices being achieved.
The construction industry in the county remains busy, however, and in 2005 was among the busiest for home construction in Ireland. There is still an oversupply of Section 50 student accommodation in Tralee, which for the past few years has contributed to a softer market for four-bed homes.

where did you end up?
Tralee! Main consideration was proximity to the ocean and lower property prices in Tralee. The decision by Tralee UDC to run M&S out of town was disappointing but we had made the decision. And Killarney is still only 22 miles away!

Yes if your an ocean person and the budget of course,Tralee has lots of choices ;-) Love both though and a special treat to Killarney is never a problem.Enjoy!!
