Does anyone have any information on what Charleville in County Cork is like?
My husband has recently got a job there and we will be moving as a family in two months time.
He is currently renting but we will be buying as soon as we can.
HE works very long hours and hasn't really seen much of the town so have not got much of a clue of what to expect.
I have looked at the auctioneers lisitings but it is hard to know where to begin looking when you have no knowledge of a area.
We are currently living in Donegal, so it is a bit of a trek.
I would really apprecaite any feedback on good/bad areas, types of housing there and also what sort of amenities there are in terms of creches, shops schools etc.
Thanks in advance.

I know quite a few people living there and they like it for the most part. Can be very busy (main Cork-Limerick road runs through Charleville).
Is pretty scenic nearby although you wouldn't think so when passing through.

GAA & rugby are very popular. Plenty of shops pubs etc.and Lidl is opening there soon.

Quite a few housing developments in recent years, but still reasonably priced.

Know this area very well. THe town has expanded rapidly in the past few years with a number of new retailer openig there (Lidl, boutiques) with plans for Dunnes etc... just been passed. This is a plan for the town to eventually be bypassed which would increase its popularity as the traffic congestion through the town can be quite bad at times.

THe prices of houses in the area have increased rapidly over the last few years and there have been quite a few nice housing developments in the area.

If you want any specific information on any aspect of the town please PM me and I can give it to you!

Market is still good.. House prices in Brindle Hill just went up 11% for new phase.

Dunnes stores in progress other planned development.

Not bad at all.

New hotel undercontrustion again 4star

Quite a few properties on the market there now ..probably good time to but for home.. might get deal id negotiate..

Hope this helps if your still looking

Chronic traffic through the town but it will be bypassed. Someone got killed on the main street there recently. The locals know how to go around on the back streets. There is a creche run by the health board in the town itself and my sister uses the one that is on the Limerick road, it has a large garden, just after the Church but before the Hotel which was being rebuilt, stopped for 2 years and is being rebuilt again. If you have school going kids there is a bus service run by the creche that brings the young ones for out of school hours care. Good school right in the town. You need to talk to a local to find out the 'bad estates' The prices should tell you though. As it's a small town, not so nice and good areas are right beside each other as is the case everywhere in Ireland. Very easy to commute to Limerick or Cork. I think Charleville is considered midway. There is no real problems in the town that I know of and I have a lot of relations living there so I'm not naming the bad areas! Lovely 27 hole golf course close by, and very reasonable prices- by city standards. Card games most nights in one of the pubs, big tradition in Cork - they play 45 and not 25. There is also a amature playhouse (theatre). Lidl have a hugh warehouse, newly built nearby providing employment, in addition to their store. Dunnes is going ahead. Nice town all in all, plus the train service is brillant as a lot of Dublin/Cork trains stop there - think it's something to do with the golden vale factory so it's good for commuting. I recommend you ask one of the auctioneers for a short term rental so you can get your bearings. Brindle Hill 3 bed semi d's are about 700/800 a month rent.

hi Decider..
Charleville seems good .loads of new estates well priced but also consider there are a few other places in the area within a 20 minute drive if you did not want to live in an estate in the town. Limerick is not that far if the hubby is willing to commute.. the road from limerick to charleville is better than the cork to charleville road..

spent some time there as a friend bought a great house on the outskirts of the town at a very good price in comparision (working in Limerick), not much in the place though ,very one street town, people friendly but theres definitely a small town mentality going through there.

Traffic has boomed over the last couple of years so it can be very very busy in the mornings and evenings. You are only about 45 minutes from Limerick City and about an hour from Cork City so you are faily central.

Charleville is a nice town went to school there a few years ago. A new Dunnes stores will be built there by December, you have a train station but definatly has a small town mentality.

I would suggest having a look at houses on the outskits of Charleville either in the Cork or Limerick direction.

The house prices in Kilmallock are fairly reasonable and that is only 10min from Charlevillle.

As far as I know Chareville will be bypassed in the coming years to make the road from Cork to Limerick direct when that is beginning I don't know, but it is a nice town people are friendly.

And of course the really good news is that Charleville is still close to Tipperary! A winner all the way.
