Hi All

I just have a quick question

Basically I was quoted e600 for laying a woollen carpet on stairs and a landing
The carpet was a mid range one so I’m just wondering if this is a fair quote?

Thanks J

hi
i recently went to a local carpet shop and they were charging me around the same as that. they were charging 48 euro per brass handle for each door and 265 to fit it. the lady in the shop said that all the fitters are the same and charge 6 euro per square yard. i went to carpet right, they fitted the stairs and landing for 110 euro and each brass bar was 12 euro :)

thanks for that, I should clarify that this is the supply and fitting of a carpet and not just for the fitting, though we will not be getting the brass things.

The landing is about 5' x 6' the stairs have about 13 steps with a wind

If you don't mind me asking is it the Dublin area you're in? I was quoted €428 to put 100% synthetic carpet on my stairs supplied and fitted (that's not including a landing area) from Bargaintown, another place gave me a quote of €289 for 100% wool carpet supplied and fitted. Will pm you their number if you so wish?

Msmyth, feel free to post the name of the company you used here so long as you have no connection.

Well the guys I got the best quote from are in Ashbourne- I'm a poor critter so i've been to every carpet shop between Dublin and Drogheda myself! They're called N2 floors and they've a warehouse/shop on the Dublin side of Ashbourne.

the money i was charged was for supply also. you have to get the brass connectors, how else will it meet the saddle of the door

Oh I get it, sorry I was getting mixed up with those brass things that go across each step[/FONT]

Don't go for 100% wool, you'll regret it! It wears quickly and you get tons of fluff off the pile. Especially for a heavy traffic area like a stairs! 80/20 is the best wearing in my experience.

for the stairs and landing. get good underlay. it will give a cheaper carpet a lot more bounce and longer life

Thanks for those tips- I do vaguely remember learing in home ec about this 80/20% rule with carpet, so it must be true! I'll go for a cheaper carpet from the same guys so and get that underlay- thanks!
