I use hard water in coffee machine and very little coffee being made in it now - it appears like its limed up. I know vinegar works on shower heads but is it safe to put in vinegar in place of water, boil it through the machine and see if it unblocks it? Will it explode on me??? Should we evacuate the house for the duration ! Please help I love my coffee and can't face xmas without it

I've used a white vinegar solution (i.e. vinegar with some water added) to clean our coffee maker very successfully for a number of years now. Just be sure to rinse out with clean water on completion and run a "brew" with water only to eliminate any odour and aftertaste.

citric acid (any pharmancy will have it) will do the trick in no time. no need to leave house no smell. Just add it to water. Heat up and leave in machine for a few hours heating every now and again. no taste after using either

Only two days ago we used vinegar to de-scale ours and it also worked to perfection.....

Vinegar its cheap and available, 75 cent a bottle in alda

What sort of mix/proportions? 50:50? Something else?

I would use roughly 66:34 vinegar/ water, mainly to extend the vinegar if I'm descaling a kettle also. I know citric acid works too but it's not as cheap as vinegar.
