Daily Expense Allowance

Hi there,
I manage a company and we have three sales people on the road mainly in the UK. The usual spend on daily expenses has varied but covered breakfast lunch and dinner and £5 for incidentals. Petrol, parking, hotel etc all paid for separately by the company. If entertaining clients the spend was obviously greater and alcohol included.

However the three staff went on their own and put through quite a few drinks (almost £200) worth of drinks while attending a conference.

I'm trying to draw up fair procedures and I wonder can anybody advise me? The staff have suggested £40 to £50 on top of hotels, petrol, parking, car hire, etc. But I feel that £30 is more reasonable. Also does anybody have advice on a policy regarding alcohol?

Thanks in advance,
Kinsey.

Look at revenues overseas allowances. Its £40 for full day allowance in UK I think.
Most companies don't reimburse for alcohol. Obviously if you have an agreed blow out thats different

Is this Irish revenues allowances?? It sounds like the OP is posting from the UK and if so, is he aware this is an Irish site?

Hi Sunny,
I run an Irish company with staff in the UK and Ireland. The sales team are based in the UK largely.

Thanks,
Kinsey.

I used to work for a small company (15 staff) in the UK...our allowance was £10 for UK daily travel, £20 for overnight travel UK & abroad (that's food/drink only)....the boss didn't allow us to spend alot to say the least!! No alcohol allowance. All them limits went out the window when we went out with the boss of course, and anything could be spend...and was!

Oh right. Sorry but wasn't sure. My company would shoot me if myself and colleagues sent in a drinks bill for ourselves for £200. They will pay legitimate expenses and are very generous and have never had problems but they won't pay for me to go a bender with my colleagues!
