I intend to employ a plasterer and assistant for min.1 days work have been quoted €475 per day.Is this average ?

Seems a lot but it is about right for a one off. Remember that insurance, tax, liability insurance and holiday pay have to be factored in. Plus, the skills that a qualified plasterer (and his mate) have acquired. If he comes recommended, go for it.

Can't really remember how long it took my plasterer to do my plastering job. What I do know is that I got three quotes but went with the most expensive as he was the only one recommended, and I got the best vibe off him.
I'd only have gone for the cheapest quote had all three been recommended, or none of the recommended.

Apologies for hijacking your post. How much work are you expecting them to complete? Have a three bed terraced hse which needs to be replastered. I'm wondering would it be better to do one area at a time or the whole lot altogether!

reovating old house, plastering old open hearth fireplace that I have put up new blocks,a kitchen area where I installed double doors the area where the frame fits in ,2 socket area have to be filled in [re wiring took place ].I removed a dividing wall between kitchen area and sun room so the edges need to be replastered. Old doorway in kitchen has been closed up so it needs to be re plastered.Bathroom a few holes to be filled in. So i do not have entire walls to be plastered.
I am trying to get job done before Xmas. Original builder who I employed last July to do renovations has let me down badly .He has done 1 evenings work since end of Sept.So I hope to have job finished when he casually returns to resume work when it suits him.I have already paid him €900 euro for renovations done have nt seen much of him since.

depending on what area of the country you are in -- that quote sounds pretty average to me -- JUST MAKE SURE that they clean up after themselves -- plasterers are the messiest tradesmen ever

at this stage you are not going to get the job done before x-mas (unless a miracle happens) -- you are also not going to get the job done anytime soon -- not unless you are going to start getting tough with them -- for a start don't pay UNLESS job has been completed
I know its nice to be nice -- but not with these guys !!!!!!!!!!!! they're taking you for a ride

I have been very fortunate with my plumber and electrician have both done work requested. I made mistake of part paying carpentar [he also does blocklaying, plastering] for work he had already done.He was only doing my job as nixer. It is very difficult to get replacement worker.I want to make sure I have one before I say goodbye to original worker.Did succeed in getting blocklayer last week. I have managed to locate a number of plasterers, 1 available after Christmas, the other I am meeting On this Sunday with a view to doing work this week.

YES - the plumber does the plumbing - the electrician does the electrics - the carpenter does the woodwork - the plasterer does the plastering ---
only COWBOYS say that they can do most/everything
unless you have found an exceptional handy man --- STILL no guarantees

I got a bedroom, 9ft * 14 ft wide, hall, stairs, landing and under the stairs, extended kitchen walls & ceiling plastered for 2100. He also filled in 3 misc holes running floor to ceiling that the central heating installers left when they were running the pipes.
One blokes asked for 450 to fill the 3 holes above and skim one wall in the kitchen so its worth ur while asking around.
The breakdown was:
350 for the kitchen ceiling
600 for the kitchen walls as it counts as 2 rooms with the extension.
750 for the hall, stairs and landing
400 for the bedroom.
It was worth every penny!
