Always wanted roman blinds in the sitting room of new house. But to keep the front of the house the 'same' from the outside, I am considering Roman blinds in other rooms too at the front of the house (including bedrooms). I have always had plain cream roller blinds in my old house so they all looked the exact same from the outside of the house. I picked a couple of fabrics for the Roman blinds and am concerned about the inch or two of colour that can be seen at the bottom of these and the fact that it will be different colour in different rooms. For those of you who have Roman blinds, do you ever notice this when driving up to the house? I think I am making a mountain out of molehill - but want to do it right (when spending a lot of money!!). Anyone got black-out option on their roman blinds in bedrooms? Is there any difference to the look of roman blinds with blackout option or without blackout option from outside the house? In the rest of the house, I will get getting normal roller blinds. BTW -the reason for the roman blinds is I am not a curtain person, so probably will have none in the house at all. So wanted to add a bit of warmth and bulk to windows without curtains. Any other ideas much appreciated either!!!

I have plain cream blinds in all windows but recently, I have seen timber blinds in a house where there are no curtains (similar to my own house) and I am thinking of going down the route of timber blinds. They are nice, compact, keep out the light in bedrooms and look full. Might be an idea as well for you! Good luck.

thanks Mopsy. I like timber blinds too. I have some at the back of the old house. But I do find that they're not as good as blinds with black-out for bedroom. That would be my main reason for not having them. But to be honest, not getting much further on making the decision on the other type of blinds -so they're back in the equation I think!!

I have roman blinds on living and bedrooms on front of front. Blackouts in bedrooms but none in living room. Big difference in amount of light coming in without blackouts. All different materials on inside facing but same cream on back (threads can be seen). I have casement type windows and the bar on top hides the bottom of blind when up. You do have a lot more blind showing when up compared to rollers. I never really took notice of them from outside so that may say something in itself.

............and very very dusty! We only have them in one part of the house and they drive me nuts. Got a special thing to clean them but I dont think it does all that much really. The dust would turn me off from getting them again.

I'm wondering if wooden blinds are suitable for french doors, what do you think? Can they be attached in such a way that they don't go lfying when you open the door? Would they only over the glass or the whole door?

they are attached to each door to cover the panes of glass. They can be closed at the bottom so they dont go flying open but the bracket they put on cant be opened and closed if you know what i mean. So in summer, you cant raise and lower the blinds as it suits.

It is now possible to get metal, timber effect blinds, which are much slimmer and therefore don't hang down as far when raised. They can be put on sunroom type windows/doors as well. Most blind suppliers should have samples.
Think the name is alu-wood.

I put plain cream rollerblinds on all windows at the front and then put blackout romans behind on bedrooms, curtains downstairs. All the windows look the same from the outside. The romans don't look great from the outside on their own. The roller blinds also mean that you can have privacy and light at the same time
