hello all, just a quick question, hope someone can help...

went to a tile shop today to price wall and floor tiles for a shower room and toilet room, the size of the shower room is 48"w X 77"l X 83"h and the size of the toilet room is 34"w X 46"w X 83"h.

could someone work out the sq yd/mtr of this for me as i think they gave a wrong size for me in the shop. also if you have bought tiles recently what price did you pay for it!

the price quoted for these 2 rooms was 948 euro. does this sound ok

thank you

Re: price of tiles!!!

What was the price per sqm or sq yard of the tile you bought? it could vary a lot... The last tiles i bought (floor) were €112 sq yard.... Prior to that, i paid €15 per sqm for wall!!!

This is such an open ended question it is nearly impossible to answer but here goes ...

Measurements (no guarantee they are 100% correct).

Shower Room:
Floor - 3.13 square yards (with 10% for cuts).
Wall - 17.64 square yards (with 10% for cuts).

The calculations above are given with the following in mind:
1. There is nothing subtracted for the area of the door as the measurements are not included.
2. There is nothing subtracted for the area of the window as I don't know if there is one in this room.
3. There is nothing subtracted for the area of the shower tray as I don't know if there is one in this room.

Toilet Room:
Floor - 1.32 square yards (with 10% for cuts).
Wall - 11.28 square yards (with 10% for cuts).

The calculations above are given with the following in mind:
1. There is nothing subtracted for the area of the door as the measurements are not included.
2. There is nothing subtracted for the area of the window as I don't know if there is one in this room.

After all that I hope my calculation are correct!!!

Now with respect to your query on the price of tiles, well how long is a piece of string?
Tiles can range from a few Euro per square yard to anything over a €100 per square yard.

Also, remember you are paying for tiles, adhesive, grout, seals & trims.
The price seems good but that really totally depends on the quality of the materials you are buying.
(I would guess you are buying tiles in the range of €20 - €25 per square yard based on the quote given - therefore ceramic???)

Hope this helps...

hi, thanks for ur replies, just to add to my original post first, the price given was in a half price sale!!!!!

re: baccus' question about price per sq yrd, i was only given a total price for 30 sq yards and 34 borders so not sure of price per sq yard!!!!!

re:gocall01 there is 1 door and 1 window in the shower room - door on smaller wall 2'6 x 6'6 and small window on the bigger wall (only abut 1' x1')
And the toilet room has only a door on the smaller wall 2'6 x 6'6, no window... and thank you very much for ur time in working out the sizes for me.....

does anyone know if you can buy tiles online??????

No nothing about buying tiles - the price in shops is inclusive of all materials relating to fitting them?
So the only other cost is to pay labour for the tiler?

Shower Room:
Take 1.8 square yards from the wall area for the door.
I would discount the window as the area will be used to tile around it.
Is there a shower tray in the room?
You would be subtracting from the floor area if there is.

Toilet Room:
Take 1.8 square yards from the wall area for the door.

What were the areas quoted by the way?

Did you get any reply an our question about buying tiles online?

No bother.
Good Luck.

I'd avoid borders if I was you. They are usually expensive and I had thought that they were now out of fashion?

Borders - not out of fashion, however they do add to the expense of buying tiles for a room.
Everyone has their own taste, sometimes a border does something for a room sometimes it is better to go without, personal decision.

Rather than running the border all the way around the room try running a strip from floor to ceiling.
I have seen this done quite a bit lately and it breaks up a wall nicely where there might not be any fixtures or fittings to do so.

Tiles aren't something I'd readily buy online. You have no idea of the quality you're getting, and even colour reproduction varies between monitors, too many variables there.

Won`t be buying online Leo - just want to get a feel for prices etc before I start looking. Any online sites?
