Can any one help? I was watching about the house last night and there was a couple who had a block build and where making it air tight by using a special lining.
My problem is I cannot remember the product name. does any one know?
I have looked on RTE web site but no information there.
Any help would be great .
Or if anyone has used a material to make a block build airtight that would help also.

We were told by our builder that it was not possible to make an block build airtight.

The membrane was probably pro clima which is sold by [broken link removed]

It is possible to make a block build airtight. Talk to the above company as they are very good to give free advice on how to do this.

I have no connection to them.

Dont know name of the product but heres a link to a product (no connection to any references)

I got a brochure recently from irish insulation (www.irishinsulations.ie) explaining the concept

I want to do the same thing create an airtight seal around the perimeter of my cavity block wall. From what I understand these products are taped to the inner leaf using special tapes, then battons are place over it and drylining is then completed. Likewise in the roof these products are used a vapour check and a normal membrane is placed underneath the slate.

Theres another crowd in Athboy ecological building services http://www.ecologicalbuildingsystems.com/ who are also providing these products.

The house is going to be insulated internally using natural hemp. Did you notice the size of the battens (more like 4" boards on the flat) that are currently on the wall. I assume they will have a vapour barrier below the wall slab. There is going to be serious amount of tape used to seal up to the windows.

I thought that a house had to have some ventilation for health and safety purposes - i.e. that you cannot make it air tight under existing building regulations?

You make it as airtight as possible and then you install a HRV unit i.e. controlled ventilation as opposed to random holes in the wall\trickle vents.

Our house was built in this manner. It is air tight but air flows are controlled by special vents in the windows, one on the bottom externally and one on the top internally. The windows were imported from the uk and all have these vents. We also don't have door saddles on any of the doors and the reasons given was again to do with air flow in the house. We also have passive stack ventilations on the roof too. The house is surrounded in this membrane also between the blocks and first fix!
