Anyone hear anything on the grapevine or interweb as to clues of what to expect in the Budget next week. Usually hear a lot by now but its pretty much all doom and gloom, anyone recommend any good sites?

Only heard the usual scare stories that the Sunday papers use to sell copies.

VRT to be based on emissions not CCs.

No top tax rate cut.

PRSI employee upper threshold to be increased substantially or removed altogether. PRSI reduction from 4% to 2% not happening.

Stamp duty not to be applied in a banded manner and top rate kept at 9%.

Indexation of income tax credits and bands if he's feeling generous.

Just back from collecting my youngest at the school gate. Let's hope Biffo hits the yummy mummies in their big SUV's , Spacewagons (vans with windows?) and jeeps. Today, I counted 15 such vehicles, most had a max of two children in them and seven had huge bull bars in the front... to kill pedestrians outright is always better for litigation according to a solicitor friend! They usually have to park on grass verges of nearby houses or block traffic on nearby side roads. Three of them were from my housing estate - 0.75 of a mile from the school gate!

He shouldn't penalise farmers and builders who have a genuine need for SUV's and jeeps.

it feels like the quietest budget build up ever! maybe with the no confidence vote on Mary this week its eaten up all the build up time!

Sure of course he should tax suv's....lets take the typically Irish easy way out...the fact that sucessive Governments have totally ignored land use and transport planning (did you not see Primetime?) is nothing to do with it...also we are poor at public transport planning and execution, plus the fact that we still do not have integrated ticketing...why not imporve the bus lanes instead and why not some solution for school child transport? There isn't even a junior Minister in the Dept of Transport!

Incrasing the tax on SUV's is the easy way out...

Already discussed to death on AAM - let's not have the same argument again!
