I was on the aer Lingus site today looking to book a flight to New York.

Did you know it works out 100 euro cheaper to fly return from New York to Ireland than it does to fly New York return from Ireland.

If you book 2 one way tickets it also works out 50 euro cheaper than booking a return ticket from Ireland.
Dates checked were march 23 to march 28th 2008.

Why are aer Lingus screwing people flying from Ireland and not charging the same price for the same ticket to people travelling from the USA.

this sometimes happens with Ry too. This year I saved €60 each (€120) on flights to Faro in August by booking two singles with exactly the same outward/return flights. Not confined to AL.

I presume it's because there hugh demand with irish people going shopping in NYC at the moment and not so much the other way until christmas week.

Supply and demand an all that, don't really see a problem with it.
Try booking a ryanair flight if there's a rugby or soccer game on in europe, they triple the prices, now that's a rip off !.

so when Aer Lingus do it, it's fine, but when Ryanair do it it's a rip off?

We booked Dublin/Boston/Dublin in October. Out Dec21 - return Dec30 and paid about Eu900. Checked again last night and it was about Eu 1'400. Early bird etc., etc. I lived in Europe many moons ago ans used to pay about 400 Irish pounds with Al for Zurich/Dublin/Zurich. Flew there last spring and total fares for Dublin/Baden-Baden, Ludwigshafen/London and Stanstead/Dublin was Eu404. And that was for two people. People don't realise how lucky they are.
