I am going on my first skiing holiday and have bought myself skiing pants, jacket, gloves and hat but can anyone tell me what should I wear under these when I am out skiing. Also when we go out in the evening what do people wear - I have visions of about two big bags each with all the gear if I have to dress up in evening I'll need another coat and lots of shoes and heavy jumbers and pants - any tips on reducing all these clothes.

Were abouts are you going. I was in pamparovo in bulgaria last year and during the day i just wore track bottoms and long sleve top under my ski stuff . You will be amazed how warm you do be while skiing. As for the evening time its all pretty casual, jeans and a shirt for me trousers and a top for the other half we didnt see anyone in dresses or anything. Just remember in regards to shoes if u are walking anywere at nite the snow freezes and it can get very slippy so high heals are a no no. In relation to saving room in ur case we carried our ski jackets onto the flight it saves a hell of alot of room in ur case

I was in Livigno this year! Under my ski gear i wore tracksuit bottoms/leggings, t-shirt and jumper and thick socks!Thatll do you for day time! Night time was soo casual, jeans and boots (flat), deffo no heals, made that mistake the first night then they spent the rest of the week in the suitcase! Nobody "dressed up" as such as everyone was so tired and chilled after being out all day we didnt care what others looked like! You'll probably go out straight from the slopes with what you've been wearing all day and not care! I wore the same jacket all week both on the slopes adn going out at night! You'll be actually quite warm during the day but itll be freezing at night! So casual gear all the way!

Thanks for that we are going to Livigno too for Christmas. That is great I can cut down my bags by half already now I have to convince my boys that they dont need every stitch in their wardrobes!!! Now to conquer the skiing!!!
Swordshead Any hints on good ski schools we are going to book this when we get there and also the gear we need. I believe we are near lift 31 which is not near the centre (a mistake when booking).

I was in copper mountain last year coldest spot i've ever been too, with that I wore a long sleeved thermal vest (from pennys) a thermal polo neck under my jacket and just my ski pants, i'd be too warm with thermals or leggings on the pegs. I've been to livigno at new years and february and its not bad at all, even when a storm rolled in. At night jeans, boots and casual gear. Our first year we did ski school at Dos 18 (can't remember the name instructors were fab) go to the bella vista for dinner lovely place :) you lucky thing you'll have a ball its a great spot.

We werent near the centre either, but it doesnt matter as theres great shuttle buses that go around the whole area morning and night! Once you figure out the times and get your bearings theyre a god send! As for ski schools, we booked through a tour operator thingy and just arrived at our allocated slope on the first morning so im sorry i have no idea what the name of the school was...Mario (mmm) was our instructor and was great craic! A good website to check out is http://www.livigno.com/en/index.htm as it has 2 webcams to check out the snow conditions! Seems to have some on it already by the looks of it! If you dont get the hang of skiing (i didnt), id recommend the husky sledding, which is about an hour from livigno, the tobogganing which is so much fun or the T-borg night (for adults) where you get skidooed(sp?) up a mountain to a lodge where theres unlimited vino and a meat fondue night all for €40..best night of the week! Book early with your rep!

Yeah I'd second the porno boards (togogganing) and t-borg night lots of drink involved in t-borg so can't remember any kids at it, remember breakdancing on a table and singing badly! great night

I think i was there that night..you were great! Only jokin!:p Sliding down teh mountain on a robbed beer tray was the best part...how we made it down alive i dont know..the poor Panorama rep nearly had a nervous breakdown!:D

it is a mad night my bf robbed the panorama reps jacket and proceeded to do grease lightning. I'm sitting in work grinning, (did you like my electric snake move;))

It was great..till ye fell off the table and got coverd in bits of pork from the fondue haha!!:D Even though i wasnt keen on the skiing..it was still a fun week!

After reading all those posts I don't know if I'm more looking forward to the trip more or less!! I suggested to my family I would sit out the skiing bit and just enjoy the apre Piste (sp) and the shopping that night out seem good only I wont need a tray to come down the mountain as I feel I'll be on my bum coming down the mountain most of the time anyway. My balance isn't the greatest at the best of times when we get a bit of icy weather in this country!!!

You dont necessarily have to ski..half our group did snowboarding! Ask to try out both to see which one you prefer!

Generally it's not recommended to wear cotton as when you sweat the cotton gets wet, and then you can get very cold. That said, we were in France last Christmas, it was very warm, and my son was wearing a t-shirt with his ski jacket on but not zipped up fully.

Being a cold creature, I had thermal underwear on which kept me nice and cosy!

Give it a try my gf was dead against skiing and said all along she wouldnt do it. But i got her to try and she loved it even tho she spent most of the time on the ground. I reckon falling over is half the fun
