Paint work "keyed"

The joys of on street parking. For my troubles I have had my metallic paint car doors and passenger doors lightly "keyed".

I can feel the depth of the cut with my fingernail but it is not totally through to the undercoat or primer.

Polishing pretty much eliminates the "keying" but can anyone recommend a company preferably on the south side of Dublin that they had personal experience with that could fix it without hopefully having the entire door panels resprayed?

By the way the muppet that keyed the car was a 10 year old local tearaway that took a dislike to any relatively new car in the neighbourhood over the summer and no I don't live in a rough inner city area.

Very sorry to hear that. When I first got my old Volvo a few years back the bootlid was keyed right down to the bare metal and it really took alot of the new car feeling away.

I've heard good things about http://www.carcraft.ie. They do colour restoration which might help to disguise the scratch a bit. Personally though I would just recommend getting a respray. It wouldn't cost much more than what they would charge you for colour restoring anyway.

A few on this site have used ChipsAway - and appear to be very satisfied. I think they do all sorts of cosmetic/bodywork.

Just as a matter of interest - you say you know who did this? As I assume they (or parents) are paying I wouldn't be too concerned with keeping costs down - Doesn't sound necessary but if it does take a respray, so be it.

Thanks for the replies

About the child, no the parents do not either know how to keep the child in check at all, or how to say "no". Being in the charge of a "nanny" during the day has not helped him. The parents will not take responsibility either for the damage on several cars.

Rather than ostracising him. we have helped out by getting him involved in the local soccer team and other activities etc and that has helped his behaviour a lot.

Don't get me started on irresponsible parents.

Thanks again

Well fair play to you for your patience and understanding.

Can't say I would have been as charitible - if they didn't cough up I would have simply phoned the gardaí.

Better to change the childs attitude for society in general.

The Gardai? My legal experience of the Gardai is that they do not want to know about what they consider minor public order offences. They will only react if they catch someone in the act.

No wonder peope are cyncical of law and order enforcement. My neighbours were promised that a Garda would pay a visit. They are still waiting.

Many thanks for the helpful suggestions on the paintwork

A long overdue update, both Chipsaway and Carcraft were not much use.
I personally found this gentleman very satifactory whilst being keenly priced

remember they're a franchise so one branch may be much better (trained or experienced) than another.
