UK Car import - Flood waters

Hi all - am thinking of importing a car from the UK but am worried by what a friend has said to me. They reckon that the cars might not be in good condition as a result of the flood waters last year.

Can anyone help or give advice on this point?

Thanks

The whole of the UK wasn't under water!

I'd be wary of buying from a garage/auction in one of the areas which were, though.
I know of a company here who bought in a transporter load of cars which were flood-damaged, and there have been loads of problems with the electrics, unsurprisingly.

I'm sure by now a lot of the cars affected will have been spread around the country so you should always be careful. If the car you're interested in was only 1 previous owner, who lived in Surrey, but the car is for sale in Leeds.....................
Look around for tell-tale signs - debris around the boot hinges, damp smell in the interior etc. Be careful, but you don't have to assume that every car in the UK became a lemon overnight!

Thanks Jock

Thought of that myself but just wanted to be sure. I guess I want to make sure I am making th right decision to bring one in from the UK

have ordered a car from england . now worried . ill be giving a serious once over when it gets here

I recently purhased a car from the UK.
Before I ourchased it and handed over teh cash I also paid the extra and got a full RAC check done on it.
Great check and would advise anyone to get it.
Fortunately there was nothing wrong with the car but it definately put my mind at ease. Its a realy thorough job and the things they listed are so detaield that I couldn't even some of the stuff on the list like small scratch here etc.
They give you a phone call straight after the check and then send a detaield report.

Its expsensive at £250 - but if yor are spendign a lot of money on the car and making a big saving compared to buying here its well worth it.

HPI it now. End of worries.

End of worries about outstanding finance, whether it was an insurance write-off etc.

Tell you nothing about whether the car was submerged in the floods & is simply being sold on.

That'd be an insurance w/o.
