Hi Guys,
Don't have the budget for Shanahan's, am tired of FXBs, can't get through to Darwin's - I need some more recommendations, please!!

Darwin's might not be open yet. Worth trying again, don't know of anywhere better for the money.

Why not try the Friday lunch in Shanahans? It's far more reasonably priced. If you like steak you really can't beat this place.
 
unfortunately Shanahans suspends its Friday lunch in Nov & Dec.. would you consider a more general restaurant that also does steak.. maybe Fire in the Mansion House?

May I suggest a smallish restaurant called Bistro. It's in Castle Market between Powerscourt and Arcade in Drury Street. Ate there about a month ago for the first time and it was the best steak (sirloin) I had in years. It was simply delicious! You may need to book unless it's early.

Most of the reviews in adlib.ie are stuck at about 2002 or so?
 
Well, managed to get reservation at Darwin's. Had the best meal I've had in ages there, the wine, starters, 110z fillet steak and warm chocolate cake were all delicious. Would totally recommend it.
 
ha ha it was an eleven oz fillet steak, i could only eat half, it was so big.
In fairness it was pretty reasonably priced given the high standard of the food and service. (Have paid more for lesser meals.)

Starters- 10e +
Mains (inc fillet steak) - 30e. All mains come with a decent size side of veg/salad.
Desserts - 8e.
House wine was v. good - approx 20e.

Looking forward to going back.
 
I have had two steaks in Peploes over the last two years and both of them were memorably delicious, nicely charred on the outside and flavoursome within. On the second visit I bought my brother who agreed that his steak was very good indeed- comes with nice chips and a little pot of bernaise.

Darwins is also makes for an enjoyable dining experience.
