Hi all

about 2 year ago i used a web site to book a hotel online, i thought it was hotels.com or something similar. I had to pay a 10% booking deposit in advance(obviously the website commission) and the balance to the hotel on arrival. however all the sites i'm looking at now require full payment on booking. does anyone know of a site that just requires a deposit.

thanks

you could try www.quikbook.com

I have booked several times through Venere.com. They require credit card details for the booking at the time of booking but they do not take payment. You pay the hotel in full when you are leaving it.

I dont know if it applies in all cases but you could try booking on the hotel's own website which is unlikely to charge for booking.
In making hotel plans recently, we found the hotel we were looking at was listed on several hotel websites but also had a website of its own. The cost for the room was cheapest on the hotel's own website so we booked direct. Our credit card wasn't charged until we arrived.
It is worth a bit of research.

www.hrs.com don't take anything on booking

www.centralr.com take deposit (10% iirc) on booking. You pay the rest when settling your bill in hotel.

I use www.activehotels.com

They take your credit card number to confirm the booking, but you actually pay at the hotel.

There's no cancellation charge up to 24 hours before checkin I think.

We have booked 2 rooms through Venere.com for 1 night in Barcelona. The hotel has a cancellation policy which says there is no "penalty" for cancelling the booking up to 48 hours in advance. But, it also took the 1st night's accommodation cost as a deposit, which in our case amounts to the total cost as we are only staying 1 night. Some other hotels seem to have the same deposit policies.

Does anyone know if these monies will be refunded should we cancel in time? Has anyone any expeience of same?

I have used www.booking.com and did indeed pay the hotel directly. Found them to be very good.

I have also used alpha rooms but have had a bad experience with them when I had to cancel a room at 36 hrs notice - I still was charged in full for the three nights I had booked.

I had paid the extra cancellation fee but because it was within 48 hrs I was too late .. Could not understand why I was not just charged for one night though as I know for a fact that Alpha had cancelled the room prior to our arrival in the hotel (I originally had 2 rooms booked).
