Hi, I am currently a resident in the U.K. and am due to move to ireland in the coming months. I have had problems with debt over here and therefore have a pretty bad credit rating. I am working to re-pay these debts but my score has suffered some damage.

I am looking to see if once i am a resident in Ireland will my credit score in the U.K. affect my scoring for credit in Ireland? I.E. are the same sources and companys used for credit checking. As i will be looking for a mortgage in Ireland in the coming months/year.

Cheers

ICB is used in Ireland by lenders to check credit histories/records (from which they draw their own conclusions about credit worthiness) but if you are looking for a loan having lived abroad in the recent past I'm not sure if the lender go looking elsewhere for your credit history (e.g. in the UK) or expect you to prove your credit worthiness to them somehow.

Most lenders ask how long you have lived at the current and previous addresses. I suppose they score you negatively if your declared Irish addresses are less than a year old! How negatively...? How long is a piece of string...?
