Bayside/Santry

I'm currently living in Bayside and I didn't realise until I moved here how great the community centre is (mid sutton community centre) they have various activities for children also an irish pre school. Also the local school is excellent-parents down through the years have been prepared to travel to have their kids attend it. I personally know of at least 2 families who came from Swords every day. IMO moving here was the best decision we've made. (so far) Good Luck with the move.

I think both areas are similar in so far as they have great transport links to the city and they are fairly low crime areas. Personally i prefer the houses around Santry , they seem to be better built, have very generous gardens and overall look better. The houses in Bayside all seem to have the wooden cladding which looks awful if not maintained and their gardens seem to be quite small.
Good luck with your search.

I also thought the "cladding" on the front of the houses was wood cladding but it's not it's cement. Not all the houses in Bayside have this front many(like my own) have red brick or pebble dashing also varying sizes of gardens. Hth

I am looking for opinions/experiences on Lorcan Estate (west of M1). We have young children and are thinking of moving to this area. I like the area's proximity to the new playground, santry woods green space, dublin city, northwood gym, the airport, shops, cinema & DCU. That's a pretty healthy list of positives right there. Can anybody comment further on living in this area? Thanks!

they are building a new gaelscoil at the astropark just over the m1 motorway and you are close to some good schools in the area. I've moved to royal oak during the summer and its great it is so quiet! we are very happy (don't have kids yet though)

What part of Lorcan is it as it is split in two by the Santry flyover.

Santry is a nice area, however I would prefer Shanowen, nearer the village and the collage and schools.

we viewed at least 40 houses over a two year period in shanowen we found the down side was they are actually a small house. Any that could have been extended were and in most cases very mickey mouse jobs. Would have loved lorcan but at the time houses there were pushing 600,000 mark,

Would you think of looking in Dublin 11, around willow park road. nearer to town than lorcan and still a very good area. We viewed some houses there and tehy were really nice, good size gardens too...

I viewed a house in Willow Park area. The price tag of 750k plus stamp duty and modernisation costs makes it a non-starter for me.
Thanks for all the responses by the way, choosing a home is a huge decision - I take it you all can relate.

Lorcan, especially the side nearer the omni is a great estate, really quiet (despite being right next to the M1) and the houses are really decent size, big gardens and most have room to extend. We are looking at that area too, but not a lot comes up there. Also Shanowen Drive and Shanowen Road are really big nice houses with great size gardens.

I grew up in bayside but now live in santry. I would agree with the other posters regarding the primary school which I attended. There a few negative things that can be said about bayside but the "square" is currently subject to a planning appeal for a major commercial development and also residential development. The square is the shops just off the coast road. Because of the impending(subject to its second appeal, at present) development it has become v run down and some shops have closed down. The area its self is nice but can be subject to the normal gangs of teenagers etc hanging around. Bayside is served well by the bus and dart. Howth Junction and Bayside would be the two stops depending where in bayside you live. The coastal walks etc are real plus, which i miss now that i am in santry.

Santry is a much bigger community and has better shopping facilites etc. The area is served by many buses but the population has swelled in recent years due to the northwood park complex. The metro is due in 2012 or something!

I myself would find it difficult to pick my favourite area!

We bought a house in Shanowen 3 years ago for investment. The reason we bought there was it is a quiet, cul-d-sac area, with easy access to transport routes and in a good location for shops etc. Would recommend the area, no trouble and spacious houses and gardens. We are thinking of selling it now, or working on it.

They must have been some houses if they were pushing 600k as I live near the area and dont know any houses there at that price .

hi foxylady they were nice houses, would have loved one, but 2 years ago when we started looking in lorcan side opposite omni they were pushing 550-600. we just couldn't afford that, now some of the same houses are asking 450.

Am surprised at that as I was looking myself then too and didnt see any that Price

honest not making it up!;0 we had certain things we were looking for, we were living in a town house off north strand so were sick of small house with no garden/parking so what we wanted was, ideally 4 bed, good amount of parking, side entrance if at all possible, room to extend if need be. didn't mind too much about condition as boyf is a builder. After 2 years of looking I'd say we seen 4 houses that ticked all the boxes but must has viewed about 200 in the santry/beaumont/glasnevin ave area of them they all went way above what we wanted to pay (which was 450-500, lots of them went much higher). In fairness it all worked out, got a 4 bed, with loads of parking, side entrance, room to extend in Royal Oak so I suppose as they say whats meant for you wont pass you.

Hi There,

I know Bayside and Santry very well.

Both are good places but for me the sea and dart wins out.

Although the metro north will be going very close to shanliss and shanowen I believe.

Bayside and Sutton Park are lovely parts of the general Kilbarrack area. Bayside being cheaper because the houses are generally small with small gardens and lets face it they are no architechtual gems. But it really is a nice settled Area

I am a big fan of the greater Kilbarrack area actually and wish I could afford to move there, St Margarets Ave, Foxfield, Kilbarrack Gardens, Sarto, Alden, Greendale and Verbena are also extremely nice parts of it if you want to expand your search!!!
