Castleblaney bypass open yet? rumoured to be this week or very soon.

Re: Castleblaney bypass open yet?

Not sure but it's looking like it's near completion - section bypassing Clontibret is aready being used and the section on the N2 at the Carrick side of Castleblayney which was closed for months is now open again.

The roadworks after Clontibret look like they are almost finished too.

Re: Castleblaney bypass open yet?

I believe it is going to be Monday 5th November

Obviously I hope it won't go with a bang!

Re: Castleblaney bypass open yet?

sooner the better. thats one hard town to drive through at peak times.

It will make a difference all right but it seems to me that more people are going through blayney to go in the Dundalk direction than in the Carrick direction. AFAIK, the bypass is only for the N2? If so, the Dundalk bound element of traffic will not be relieved.

Re: Castleblaney bypass open yet?

The Dundalk traffic won't have to go thru the town anymore.

Yes, but where does the Dundalk traffic emerge from the bypass?

Unless there is another road leading from the bypass to the N53, all the Dundalk bound traffic will end up joining the N2, doubling back a mile or two to the outskirts of Blayney and then turning right for Dundalk.

If this is the case I'm sure there will be a fair bit of congestion there. Unless there is a branch of the bypass that joins the N53? I didn't think so though.

Re: Castleblaney bypass open yet?

Think you are right, there will be no connecting road to the N53 and you will have to double back a bit (but I don't think as much as 2-3 miles). But, it still beats the congestion at the centre of the town.

Re: Castleblaney bypass open yet?

maybe just go back to around McCagheys garage and take the turn for Brennans Cross. save going back into 'Blayney.

According to Google maps its only an 800m backtrack. Certainly better than going through the town.
